… the MOAB bomb (I suspect) that destroyed Saddam’s palace on the Tigris? Looked just like a small nuclear explosion, with the mushroom cloud and all. I’ve heard people talking about doing this very thing for a long time now; I’m in awe that I actually see it happening. ---

I seriously doubt anyone in his right mind would use a MOAB in downtown Baghdad. Precision weapons are what you’d want in such an environment. So, while it may look big, my guess is what you’re seeing is a 2,000 lb precision-guided warhead. ---

I see by the coverage that you’re right, it was bombed by Tomahawks- my mistake was all the publicity about the mushroom cloud. What is the structure on the top right in **SmackFu’s** link? It looks like Farpoint Station. ---

It’s actually the [Unknown Soldier Monument](http://archnet.org/library/images/thumbnails.tcl?location_id=2313), which looks even freakier in the photos from ground level. ---

That is a gorgeous monument, I certainly hope it survives, both for its beauty and its meaning. ---

I agree. That is a very beautiful monument. It would be a shame to blow it up.
