Right around the time the little girl is being accosted by the ghost for the secoond time in the movie “Poltergeist”, there is a strange special effect in which JoBeth Williams (the mom) is running down the hallway toward the kids’ room but it looks like she’s running in place. The door seems to get further away as she runs, then everything sort of catches up and she finally reaches the door. My question: How dey do dat?
I think its a play on the the old trick of zooming in on the person in the frame but at the same time physically moving the camera backwards so the background gets farther away yet the focus is still on the person.
