Yeah, he was commissioned, eventually. But he started out as a grunt. It’s him or Ernest Borgnine, and I don’t think Ernest is going to get that many votes. 12. I know this is not a technically correct answer to the question. Seeger had a national voice before his service, and ended up doing most of his service as an entertainer. But he’s the only singer I can think of who is also a vet. If I knew more singers I’d have a better shot at this question. 😉 13. Among many, many others. I don’t want to try to list them all, because I know I’ll flub them up. I’m just going with our SSG, because his name is on the Feud. 14. I just like the name. I can’t explain why. 15. You’ll note: I’m leaving off the hull number. I’m hoping that those who don’t think of the first nuke carrier will still think of the most decorated ship in USN history.
