If Earl of _My Name Is Earl_ believes in karma, is he a Hindu or a Buddhist?
Earl believes in a very thin version of karma- he’s so clueless on the subject he believes it was invented by Carson Daly.

On _Sex and the City_, Charlotte eventually converted to Judaism.

On the 70s sitcom _Alice_, something is making me think that Mel Sharples was an atheist. I can’t substantiate that, though.

Dana Scully on _The X Files_ was Catholic. There were several references on the show to her struggles with her religious beliefs, and a few scenes of her attending church.

And before that, she was Episcopal.

Did George Costanza actually finish his conversion to Latvian Orthodox?
Well, **most** Irish . . . (paging Ian Paisley!)
In the 19th century, Irish immigrants who were Protestant tended to use the more respectable-sounding “Scots-Irish.” You gonna discriminate against Andrew Jackson? I don’t think so. He’ll bust a cap\* in your ass.
\*Technically, what he’d bust in your ass would be a “ball,” but that doesn’t sound quite right, WRT Col. Jackson
The Sopranos are Catholic, as are the Gavins on _Rescue Me_. In general, Italian, Irish, or Hispanic characters tend to be portrayed as Catholics or lapsed Catholics.
Yes, these folks are generally “portrayed as” Catholics, and we assume they’re Catholics, but how often are we actually given evidence that they are? Not too often.

To add another L&O person (and another Catholic) to the list–Det. Rey Curtis was a practicing Catholic. His beliefs often affected how he felt about a case. Also, he was having some marital troubles, and mentioned that he was in counseling with his priest.

From the Simpsons:

Apu is Hindu. We saw his wedding, and he often makes reference to Hindu gods.

Krusty the Klown, nee Herschel Krustofsky, was raised Orthodox Jewish, but is currently non-practicing. (I think he still feels guilty sometimes, though.)

And Jack McCoy was raised Catholic, but no longer practices.
