Speculate on what happened to my truck

I have a 2007 Chrysler 300C that has the original Daimler-Chrysler battery. This is far longer than any other battery has lasted, in any other vehicle I’ve ever had. Still no signs of slowing down. I do wonder if some current practices of battery location help with longevity. The Chrysler battery is in the trunk. My wife’s car has it under the passenger seat. Perhaps moving the battery from the heat and exposure of the engine compartment is beneficial, if inconvenient to access.

The OEM battery (a Panasonic) in my 2004 Toyota 4Runner lasted just over 13 years for me. The vehicle had about 230,000 miles at that time.

And I was considering replacing my battery! It’s practically new compared to these two. Guess I’ll wait a couple more years before worrying about it.

My Dad just replaced a 9 year old battery on his BMW and it never had any problems he just decided to replace it, the battery is in the trunk and has some kind of junction box or something, seems batteries or the way voltage or power is managed in modern cars has made them last far longer than they used to back in the day.

I’m pretty far north, for the US (not quite to the 49th parallel), and we have cold winters. All my previous, used jalopies were that way - 4 years was a long time out of a battery (I have always carried jumper cables which have gotten quite a bit of use). That’s why I’m surprised I’ve made it 7 years out of this OEM battery. This is the only modern car I’ve ever owned (born after 2000). Prior to this, my newest vehicle was a 1993 Chevrolet pickup. That battery died all the time, mainly because I drove that truck so little. I’d always hook it up to the charger the day before I knew I would drive.
