Speculation About Trump's Underlying Reasons for Bombing Iran and Other Targets

Naw, it’s easy. Trump wants a Nobel Peace Prize, so he starts a war. In his dementia-addled brain, it makes sense.

Not to anybody else, however.

What don’t you understand? Iran’s intentions to build nuclear weapons? They already have weapon’s grade uranium.. 60% is a viable fissionable level which can easily be brought to a more efficient level of 90%. They just demonstrated a medium range missile capable of hitting Europe. They’re funding Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, Houthis, and a host of militias in Iraq. They clearly have developed missile and drone capabilities and are collaborating with the Russians.

They have control over the Straight of Hormuz and are attempting to control the Red Sea via the Houthis. This is the greatest source of oil for the World.

The current Iranian theocracy is willing to massacre their own populace to stay in power. They want to destroy Israel and have actively backed groups who continue to attack it. They are attempting to dominate the region with their brand of Islam. NOBODY in the region want’s this and they sure as hell don’t won’t a nuclear Iran that can act with impunity. This is why we have military bases in these countries. They fear Iran.

This isn’t some random political event. It’s a defining moment in World history. It may already be too late but the political will to overturn the radical Iranian theocracy has demonstrated itself and now is the time to make this happen. it’s in everybody’s interest to support Iranians in the removal of this government and removal of nuclear material because Iran WILL become a nuclear state if they haven’t already built such weapons. They don’t need long rang missiles to deliver them.

And yet there have been no mushroom clouds and the people talking about actually using nukes are Americans.

How dare they? The region should be dominated by US!

So, what? We kill them all? Permanently occupy them? Install a puppet dictatorship? Just bomb them (and the rest of the Third World) to rubble periodically? Because that’s the only way to keep the awful, awful Iranians from getting nuclear weapons.

And no, America has proven again and again and again that it has zero concern for human rights, and in general prefers promoting theocracy and tyranny, not opposing it. There’s nothing noble or well meaning about this, America doesn’t do that. Trump, especially doesn’t do that.

Nor would removing the present regime make them more pro-American or less likely to try to gain nuclear weapons, and would if anything make them more militarily powerful. It’ is the clear duty from a purely self defense perspective for Iran (and everyone else) to acquire nuclear weapons, so they can hold off the increasingly irrational and aggressive US.

Most of this is nothing but propaganda. Iran’s government is terrible, but that doesn’t mean war is necessary. And the way we’re fucking everything up and solidifying Iran’s control over the Strait just shows how stupid and unplanned this whole thing has been.

Shipping through the straight seemed to be moving fine until your hero started this whole shit show.

Iran’s control can be laid directly at the feet of the idiot in the Whitehouse, and his sabre-rattling band of morons.

Iran has been funding a large number of terrorist groups in the region. It is the reason Arab nations have aligned with the US and allowed bases in their countries. Many of them have aligned with Israel under the Abraham accord.

The acceptance of the idea that Iran can’t be allowed to possess a nuclear weapon has been accepted by both parties. It has only been a function of time. And the time to act has arrived. There is no going forward at this point. The bulk of Iranians don’t want this government or another similar to it. This is probably the last time in history where this can change before Iran constructs a weapon. They have everything they need to do that.

And there was a solid deal in place before Trump tore it up. Trump did not like it because it was negotiated by Obama. That’s all.

President Donald J. Trump is Ending United States Participation in an Unacceptable Iran Deal – The White House

This whole thing rests on Trump. Tearing up a deal. Then getting upset because the deal was torn up. Then bombing Iran to “make them” do what he wants.

It’s a total shit show, and Trump owns it. As does anyone who defends it.

You can buy the propaganda from Trump and Netanyahu if you want, but you can’t possibly expect all of us to, can you? Iran has supposedly been on the verge of nukes since the 1980s.

According to Trump, Iran’s nuclear capability was obliterated last summer. He’s not the person I’d trust to obliterate it a second time.

I would not trust Trump if he tried to sell me shoelaces.

No; this war just demonstrates that they must get nuclear weapons as a matter of self defense, and that America is their implacable, utterly irrational enemy. America is working hard to demonstrate that a regime run by murderous religious fanatics is still more rational and trustworthy than it is. Iran is a regional problem, but America has become the enemy of the world.

And no, this war has nothing to do with Iran and nuclear weapons. Trump doesn’t care about things like that. Nor is it about helping the Iranian people; Trump is actively hostile to helping people, and the the US in general doesn’t care about that either. Under Trump the US is just a giant club beating the world in its collective face out of sheer spite for failing to worship him properly.

I’da gone with,
America is working hard to demonstrate that a regime run by murderous religious fanatics is still more rational and trustworthy than a regime run by murderous religious fanatics is.

I don’t think that Trump counts as a murderous religious fanatic; the only God he follows is the one he sees in the mirror.

Agreed, but he sure does have a lot of people in the background who are out and out nutters in terms of religious craziness.

So, basically, we launched a war in Iran to instigate regime change because of the notion that they had, or were about to have, Weapons of Mass Destruction. We went in expecting that they would quickly fold and hail us as conquering heroes, enabling them to become a democracy thanks to the benevolent intervention of the US military.

I am pretty sure we tried this in the countries next door (Iraq and Afghanistan), with notable failures in each case. Is it just that we’re too stupid to learn from recent history, or is this somehow different?

Don’t overlook the claims that mere months earlier we annihilated Iran’s nuclear capabilities! What a story!

Hegseth might qualify based purely on his public statements. Whether that means he sincerely holds those beliefs, I have no idea. But it doesn’t really matter as far as policy is concerned.

Never get involved in a land war in Asia.

Have you read the last from JD Vance?

“Every great world religion, including Christianity, the one that I believe in, has understood that there are weird things out there, and there are things that are very difficult to explain. And I naturally go, when I hear about sort of extra-natural phenomenon, that’s where I go, is the Christian understanding that, you know, there’s a lot of good out there, but there’s also some evil out there.

Of course they are evil demons! They are called aliens after all, right?

This could have gone into the Clusterfuck thread, or the one about the last stupid idea by a Republican, but as you brought the subject up here, here it is.
