"Speed Monitored by Aircraft"

The way the California Highway Patrol uses the AirBear units, they’ll have several (perhaps 6 or 7) ground units just sitting and waiting, while Big Brother up above starts identifying speeders. They’ll describe the car, send out a ground unit, and then look for another scofflaw.

So…the next time you see more than just a couple CHP cruisers together, you can assume there’s a flying pig in the vicinity.

BTW, in CA, they generally DON’T use motorcycle units in conjunction with the air units. I think it’s because it would be harder to describe the target cars over the radio over traffic noise and stuff.

Just kidding. I know you’ll all understand.

If you get a speeding ticket by photo radar, go to court and plead not guilty. Ask for a jury trial. If it actually gets that far, call the photo unit to testify. Since it is inanimate and cannot testify, they have no case against you. No witness = no case. A photo alone is NOT viable evidence for a conviction, especially if taken by machinery. The case WILL be thrown out.

If you have a ticket by air radar, ask for a continuance. This will ensure that either neither or only one cop will shop up to trial. Then, go to court and plead not guilty. Ask for jury trial. Likely it will be dismissed. If you actually go to trial, most likely both cops (air and ground) will NOT be there. If even one is missing, the case WILL be thrown out. If both are there, and one tries, while on the stand, to say what the other person saw, it’s hearsay and will be dismissed. Even if they play right and don’t speak for each other, if the cop that wrote the ticket did not witness and verify you were speeding for himself, it is again going to be thrown out of court, seeing as how he now wrote a ticket on hearsay.

PLEASE educate yourself about the government money-mill that is speeding tickets.

PLEASE DO NOT just blindly pay a ticket. You’re not only hurting yourself, you’re hurting your fellow Americans.

ChasE.

It was late - I misread the intent of your post. I realize that now, and of course they couldn’t ticket you by mail for speeding observed solely by aircraft.

Homer:

Thanks for the awesome info. I often wondered what they do if you make the effort to challenge the ticket - fortunately, I have never recieved one, although friends have.

Incidently we also have the new “Photo Red-light” tickets now as well.
