I’ve had my doubts when I’ve heard rumors about a Speed Racer movie in the past. However, after seeing that trailer, I am eagerly awaiting the movie.

but they had totally different names. that’s why it worked. also tights (on men) tend to draw ones attention away from faces.
The race scenes look like Mario Kart.
I didn’t hear the Mammoth Car. I can only assume they’re keeping it for the sequel.

The Mach 5 is a single seat?
I always loved the fact that his car had a bench seat.
They had better have the buzz saws that stick out he can drive through a forrest. Of course, I always wonder why the tree stumps didn’t bother the car.
Actually, if you watch the trailer closely, you’ll see that it has both. In the shot right before the car does a backflip, you can clearly see that there is a bench seat in the car, with ample room for two people, in other shots, however, Speed barely has enough room for himself in the car. This leaves us with two possibilites, that the CGI guys and continuity checkers were totally asleep at the switch (not likely, since they got so many of the other minutiae correct [maybe, more later]), or that the film will have the rather cliched story about Speed cracking up the first (single occupant Mach 5) due to dirty tricks, quitting racing, and wandering around dispondant until something happens and Speed realizes that he has to get back behind the wheel, so he shows back up at Pop’s garage, gives him a quick blow job and then hops into the “new and improved” Mach 5 that Pop’s “just happened” to have been working on, and uses that to win the race at the end of the movie.
I note that in many of the shots early on in the trailer, the ass end of the Mach 5 looks totally wrong. This again, could be a fuck up, or proof that there’s two different Mach 5’s. I’ll note that the publicity photos of the film car, as well as the has-a-lot-of-money-but-no-life official movie replica you can buy has the Mach 5 as a two-seater and the correct ass end.
