Mr and Mrs Posh Spice will leave the cozy confines of Madrid for the glamour and glitz of Hollywood this summer. Upon taking his leave of Real Madrid, Beckham will sign with the LA Galaxy of MLS and earn a reported $1 million per week, or $250 million over 5 years.

[Beckham heads for L.A. in $1 million a week deal](http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slug=reu-beckhamdc&prov=reuters&type=lgns)

I wish them the best and hope that they can afford a nice little bungalow somewhere in the hills.

Why are soccer salaries described in a $X per week, and not $X per season?

Ins’t that like 10 times what the highest paid Eurpoean players make a week? Unbelivable, but I guess I respect MSL for shooting for the big time.

There’s [already a thread on this](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=403643). As I said there, the $250m number is pretty assuredly not salary.

All that money and he still won’t make soccer more popular in the United States.
