Not a VAST difference but I’ll offer: **Soap** - A comedy satire on daytime soap operas The spin off\*\* Benson\*\* - A conventional sit-com. TCMF-2L ---

A better example from the UK. **TISWAS** (This Is Saturday Watch And Smile) was a Saturday morning kids show with music videos, cartoons and some adult presenters having anarchic fun and games. After it became noted adults were watching as intently as the target audience they did a spin off. **O.T.T.** (Over The Top) was the short lived evening version with similar anarchic humour but directly aimed at adults. Nobody’s mentioned “Better Call Saul,” a spin-off or “prequel” to "Breaking Bad.’ Breaking Bad was an hour long drama, while Better Call Saul leans more toward comedy. ---
