The overwhelmingly funny thing about this spelling byplay (some might argue the _only_ funny thing) is that ol’ spingears was actually socking under the name pingear at one point, a situation which has since been duly[rectified by the mods](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=5658489&postcount=8) . ---
