I read parts of Angela’s Ashes, and enjoyed what I read. Those parts that I did read were more of a refresher course for me, since I’d already heard most of the story first-hand.

Frank McCourt was my high school English teacher for two years. Much of that time was spent listening to stories about his youth, his brother, and just things in general. I found him fascinating to watch and listen to.

It was the only class that I never cut. :wink:

I can’t remember who said it, but he said it best when describing the plot of * Angela *:

“We’re hungry. Dad’s drunk. We’re hungry. Dad’s drunk. We’re hungry…”

It seems like everyone left off the most interesting part. How did Frank pay for his ticket back to America! He had a job writing ‘collection’ letters for the old lady money lender. One day he goes to work at her house and finds her dead. He then steals her money and her collection books, tosses the books into the river, and buys his ticket with the money.
