One of the scariest films I know (The Excorcist) featured a piece from Mike Oldfields “Tubular Bells”. It was a perfect piece of music for the film. It buiild the tension just right, and added to the overall creepyness of the movie (for me at least)

And then [they](http://www.bassie-adriaan.nl) came along. A Dutch clown and acrobat combo that did a couple of kids-series involving adventures with bankrobbers, spies and a lot chases. Great fun for kids. And then they started using “Tubular Bells” in some of the “scary” scenes.

And now every time I see “The Excorcist” of hear “Tubular Bells” I think of a fat clown and a very camply dressing acrobat.

So, who spoiled what music for you?

Ever since the beef promoters started using Aaron Copland’s “Howdown” in their commercials I can’t help but think of the “Beef, it’s what’s for dinner” slogan every time I hear this music.

Not the same kind of issue, but I’ve seen and heard the chilling sound effects from the shower scene of _Psycho_ parodied so much (_Wayne’s World_ comes to mind) that they come across as silly when I see them now, although they are really quite powerful.
