There was a study at U.C. San Diego in 2011 that implied spoilers might actually _raise_ enjoyment of a story. [One of many reports on it.](http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2011/08/spoilers-dont-spoil-anything/) Sorry… I should have let you read it yourself before giving you the results of the test, shouldn’t I? ---

Smileys are the subtitle. Hate over-using them. Not only did I think the example was absurd enough on its face that I assumed the joke was self-evident, I deliberately omitted a smiley because in my mind it would have been mildly insulting to the reader. And I get it \*now \*- the rational, analytical part of me knows that I don’t particularly stand out from the crowd of Dopers, and the Internet has no shortage of herp, and the post was ambiguous in a vacuum. Nevertheless, the wildly inflated ego part of me is kinda hurt that not only Someone, but multiple Someones would believe I wasn’t being facetious, even for a minute. Four years of diligent posting, and y’all still think I’m derpy enough that I could seriously think anyone in the English-speaking world could not know what’s up in the Bible, or that anyone would ever read it as entertainment or on its narrative merits ? I know I’m not the sharpest bulb in the deck of cards but come on. Come the fuck _on_. Pretty please ? I know it shouldn’t bother me, but for some reason it still does a little.
