Perhaps that it’s difficult to have the announcers shut up on the radio. Unlike TV…
Zeldar and I listen to Titans football on the radio while we watch it on TV. Since we are wired for TIVO, that means that our video is a second or two behind the radio broadcast. It’s still worth it not to listen to CBS and their background logo music: TA DA DA DUM! over and over and over.
I didn’t grow up watching football. We didn’t have a team in our high school or in either of the colleges that I went to. (Well, yes Vandy played across the street.) I didn’t get interested in the game until I married into this family and discovered Auburn. And then the Titans came along.
All this is to say that I don’t know a lot about football. Last year or the year before, I began to catch mistakes that the CBS announcers were making just because they weren’t paying attention to the game. That just annoyed the hell out of me and that’s one of the reasons we switched to radio.
As for baseball announcers, I had rather listen to Red Barber on the radio than watch a game on TV. RIP, Red.
True that … my mom was watching golf last sunday, and for 5 fucking minutes those jackasses talked about the dead leaves and tree litter along one of the grassy areas. Hello?
Oh, and not to mention they were in a studio and STILL whispering.
