Eric Gagne won 33 games in the majors. His name is French for “Wins” or “won,” depending on whether it has an accent mark. (Off topic, pitcher Bill Monbouquette’s last name means “My little bouquet.”) ---

Chargers had a cornerback named Quentin Jammer. He was highly touted coming out of college, and had flashes of brilliance in the NFL but overall was just okay. ---

The Nats’ third basemen is Carter Kieboom. Sadly, when he does manage to hit the ball, it doesn’t go “kaboom.” It’s usually an infield dribbler. ---

Rudy York never played for New York, Denver Grigsby played before Denver had a team, Steve Phoenix played before Phoenix got their team, and incredibly, no major leaguer named Washington has ever played for any of the three major leagues teams Washington has had. However, a Negro Leagues player named Howard “Duke” Cleveland played for TWO Cleveland franchises, and another named Pete Washington played a season with the Potomacs, so apparently Negro League general managers understood what the fans wanted. ---

The University of Kentucky football team has a kicker who was demoted from the starting field goal kicking job for missing too many attempts. His name is Chance Poore.
