Sports gambling promotions question

Good luck and keep us posted. When are the games?

Thanks, but I don’t need luck, I’m using math!

All the games are tonight. It looks like you can only bet on today’s games in hockey & basketball.

Also, I did see that you can’t put both sides of the same game in your betting slip, even if you’re using real money and it’s a guaranteed profit for the gambling site. Both fanduel & mgm prevented you from doing so. This applied in both points & over/under bets.

They’re doing that to prevent your specific fuckery but you’re next level!

They actually pulled way back on the ads when it became apparent that their ballot measure was not going to pass. (Remember, there were two ballot measures that would have allowed for sports betting, but only one allowed for outside interests like DraftKings and FanDuel to handle the online betting. I think the other one would have required the bettors to go to the casinos or any of the state’s four (soon to be three, as Golden Gate Fields is closing by the end of 2024) major horse racing tracks.)

Of the two petitions I mentioned earlier, one would ban outside companies like DraftKings from operating online sports betting, and the other would leave the details up to the state legislature and the Governor.

The other one was Indian casinos (and may have included horse race tracks). Whichever one got a higher percentage would have been the sole winner if it exceeded 50% but as you said neither did.

I was comparing it to Railer13’s observation above, where he was able to place bets on both sides of an over/under. And I tried it before I had gotten the bonus bets, so it was blocking it even when it was a guaranteed profit for them.

Keep in mind that I had four different two-leg parlay bets, and they were four separate bets. I put the first two legs (favorite to cover, over) in my bet slip and made the parlay bet. Then I put the next two legs (underdog to cover, over) in my bet slip and made that parlay bet. The I bet the next two legs (favorite to cover, under) and then the next two legs (underdog to cover, under). It was four different bets.

Just for grins, a few minutes ago on Draft Kings, I placed a 10 cent bet on the Lions to cover +7.5. Once that bet was accepted, I placed a 10 cent bet on the 49ers to cover -7.5. I had no problems placing that bet. So it appears that while the book won’t allow you to bet both sides a proposition in the same bet, it will allow you to make those bets individually.

That may not be entirely true. I think the online betting one was written in such a way that it didn’t conflict with anything in the other one. It is only when conflicting items pass that the “go with the one that got more votes” rule applies in California.

Back in post 15(?) you said:

I thought you meant you were able to put both sides of the over/under into your betting slip at the same time, not that you placed one bet, then went back and placed the other one.

The analysis from the time mostly supports you but supposes that there would have been litigation to figure that out if both passed. The Indian and racetrack proposal was very against the other guys.

Sorry, I misread your earlier post.

Yes, I can place bets on both sides of the over/under on Draft Kings.

But, I cannot, as you discovered, do the same on FanDuel.

I can, however, make the bet on ESPNBet.

I also can make the bet on BetMGM.

Interesting.

So my plan worked mostly as expected. Every bet I lost on one site I won on the other. Since the bets weren’t at even odds, I wound up with a net profit of $138.

I’ve requested withdrawals from both accts, once the money gets to venmo & then to my bank account I’ll close both accts as well.

(ETA removed problem with withdrawals, it was my mistake (and poor webpage design IMHO)).

Free money!

Definitely. Now to see if I can convince/assist my wife & kids to do the same.

Very very well done. Saving this in case California legalizes.

Don’t know if they still do, but some of those sites would give you more free bets if you refer other folks to sign up.

For completeness sake - the money did get venmo’d to me from both sites in short order, and I closed my accounts with zero difficulty.
