Ok, I used to be a runner, and I’ve got a lot of runner friends, and they were always watching this movie about some guy, I can’t remember his name. Ran in the Olympics I think. Might have broken a record or something like that. Really young guy, and he died young. Anyone know the name of this movie? ---

Two films for competative ballroom dancing **Strickly Ballroom** (one of the funniest movies ever!) and **Shall We Dance** Plus for figure skating there are **The Cutting Edge** and the bringer of one of my least favorite movie songs **Ice Castles.** ---

Here’s a solution to the OP: The IMDb lists [816 TV shows & movies](http://us.imdb.com/List?tv=on&&keywords=sport&&heading=19;sport) in the sports genre. Someone with too much time on their hands could go through all 751 movies, weeding out the documentaries, and there’s your answer. 🙂 ---

Ok so lets see we’ve got Baseball Hockey Football Soccer Running Skiing Fly Fishing (does this even count as a sport?) Auto Racing (most forms at least) Bowling Pool Bobsleding BMX Motorcycle racing with a side car Dancing (I’ve seen ballroom and I know there are a few on Ballet) Figure Skating Wrestling Appears curling has a moving coming out Volleyball Cricket Poker (well if we count fly fishing I guess this is ok) rodeo synchronized swimming gymnastics Chess horse racing Angling Cockfighting (ok) Dog Racing Fencing Ice Yachting Weightlifting Golf Boxing Rugby Tennis cycling But we seem to be missing: Darts (sorry Roxanne doesn’t count it had what two minutes?) Swimming, competative Motocross and street racing for motorcycles Hurling Speed Skating I can’t think of any others off the top of my head right now though. ---

Don’t forget Sly Stallone’s _Over the Top_, which captured the intense comepetitivness of professional arm wrestling. And I know I’ve seen a movie about competitive swimming, I just can’t think what it was or where I saw it. ---

Thank You. And why is it, I got almost all the way through the thread before someone jumped on Over the Top? I thought I would make it! Oh, and Poker certainly counts. It is on ESPN all the time. If it comes on ESPN, it counts. Thus, I nominate Bring It On for inclusion as it deals with Cheerleading. That means if anyone can think of a Spelling Bee movie, I think it should be included. ---

Back in the late 70’s, I think, there was a movie released in Australia called _Dawn_, the story of Olympic swimmer Dawn Fraser. Amazingly I can’t find it on IMDB. Will research further. ---
