Somebody needs to tell Steve Levy that Leicester (the English city) is pronounced “Lester” and not “Laychester”… (Today’s Top Ten plays, Leicester vs. Leeds (I think)) Given the less than brilliant research department over at ESPN (unless it comes to statistics like “most interceptions thrown by a quarterback with a beard”, there must be plenty of worse gaffes… any suggestions? ---

What? Lemme guess, now you’re going to tell me that Duke’s men’s basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski’s name is pronounced “Shashevski”. ---

I’m not going near that one… I’d have guessed at Krizooskee… UCF’s (University of Central Florida) football coach Mike Kruczek gets his name mispronounced by the administration all the time… including the athletic director. And, I’m pretty sure I misspelled it just now. ---

I’m just glad that Worcestershire don’t have a football team! (Wooster-shire) Being from there originally I know what a weird language we have. i can’t even order Lea & Perrins over here because of the pronunciation. ---

The folks at ESPN constantly mispronounce Andruw Jones’ name. They say “ahn-druw” rather than the normal pronounciation. Bugs the crap out of me… ---

Andruw Jones is from Curacao and AHN-drew is the correct pronunciation of his name. I think Gary Throne of all people needs the pronunciation lessons. He butchers the vast majority of European hockey names. ---

I’ve heard Joel Piniero’s first name (he of the Seattle Mariners) pronounced “Jol” (the usual pronunciation) and “Jo-el” (as if it had two syllables). I’m not sure which is correct. (Correct, by the way, is determined by the player - if he wants it pronounced a particular way, that’s how it’s pronounced.) There’s another one, with the Angels, but I can’t remember it right now. … ---

The Seattle Mariner broadcasters always pronounce it Jo-el with two syllables, so I would assume that is the correct way for Mr. Piniero. ---

Who? Gee, I dunno. Maybe the person whose name it is? This may come as an extreme shock to you, **Neurotik** , so you should brace yourself. People can pronounce their names anyway they wish. 😃 I did misspell it, though. I’ve heard it as JAIR-ed and Ja-ROD. Even so, you can’t tell me one is definitely wrong unless the man himself says it is. Maybe it doesn’t matter to him, and it’s pronounced two different ways. ---

Maybe it’s because I’m mispronouncing your pronunciation in my head.
