What’s the guideline for spouses, friends, etc of registered users posting under the registered user’s name? I have just now seen three instances in one thread where the person posting is (we’ll say) signing the post as Ms. X, while the registered user is X. I was under the impression that this was not allowed.

I’m sorry if I’ve missed this in one of the sticky threads. If it’s there, please link me to it.

For a registered user, I’ve seen it frequently. Often one of them will not notice the other is logged in. I think that should just be considered a mistake.

If a non-registered user is doing it, I’m with you - it’s not allowed.

I’m pretty sure I know to whom you are referring, and I’ve never seen a post by that poster which is NOT signed that way, which has led me to believe that it is not the significant other posting, just a signature slightly different than the username. I may be wrong, though.

I think you might be remembering Mr. and Mrs. **Lissa**.

He’d use her account to post threads–always upfront about identifying himself.

Like this one:

Ask the Private Investigator

> **[Ask the Private Investigator.](https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=183025)**
>
> My husband occasionally posts under my name. In this thread, \*\*GMRyujin \*\* requested an “Ask the PI” thread. Hubby says he’ll be happy to answer your questions. He was an investigator for a large firm for three years, and worked as an investigator...

At some point, the staff asked that he get his own account to avoid confusion. It was discussed briefly here:

> **[Getting My Husband A Seperate User Name](https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=189193)**
>
> I really apologize if I broke any rules by allowing my husband to post under my name, and for any confusion that resulted. That said, I’d like to know what the rule is about two usernames that have the same e-mail account-- for some reason, I...

AFAIK, there’s never been a sticky, but I could be wrong.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and suggest Ginger was referring to me and discussing this thread: [http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=304141](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=304141)

For what it’s worth, as soon as I saw Ginger’s post, I sent an email explaining my situation to the moderators.

Ginger, if you had an issue and felt that rules were being breached and it was your responsibility to call attention to that, I question why you didn’t simply report my posts or email me. I would have explained my signature.

/Ms Cyros

I’ve seen people warned for it before. Or at least advised against it, anyway. I would link an example but the search engine isn’t working for me, probably due to the extensive background checks being run on long term members.

I might post as Mrs. Berkut every once in a while, but that’s only because I type mostly with my right hand.

So, then, who are you referring to? I posted a link to where this issue was discussed. If that’s not good enough, perhaps you should email a mod. Come to think of it, perhaps you should have done that before.

I have in the past emailed a mod about it, and haven’t received a response. I know what the procedures are here.

**todd33rpm** and I tend to do this on occasion. It’s usually me, and it’s always an accident, when I don’t realize that he’s logged in on our home computer. He tends to take the blame for it, because he’s a noble kind of guy who doesn’t want to point out that his beloved is a goofball.
Do you mean non-members who are posting under a member’s name, though? I think that would be different, probably.

Ok, now I’m confused. You are Ms Cyros?

In the thread that’s linked here I see one post by Ginger, towards the end of the thread that concerns the OP and doesn’t mention you at all. Did I miss something in that thread or did you link to the wrong thread? 😕
