I was having lunch the other day in the Black Forest, and I heard a great big metallic “Clunk.” Out walks Hitler from the secret Bunker he’d been hiding in for the last 60 years. “Acthung, Schwienhund!” He says to me. “Vot year is it?” “2001,” I respond. “Exzellent! I am now veddy to conquer ze vorld!” “Gee, that’s great,” I say unimpressed. He’s kind of old and shitty looking. “Where’s your army?” Hitler says “I have one flight of Luftwaffe, 4 Panzer tanks, unt one platoon of Stormtroopers.” “I don’t think that’s gonna be enough, dude,” I say. “The world’s gotten pretty big, and technology has moved and all.” “Oh. You’re right on the money, Ike: the line about the Ark Royal was indeed William Joyce. The rest of the post was the text of a German propaganda leaflet dropped on the British Army in Italy, which has a nifty colour graphic of a willowy English Rose removing her stocking garters, while a smirking US sergeant is removing his tie…nothing like promoting jealousy between Allies by bringing a little sex into the mix! At least the semi-naked girl would ensure that our boys would pick up the leaflets–I suspect the other types with political or anti-semitic themes wound up as toilet paper!
