Stand to the right, walk to the left

Ok, I arrived at my apartment this afternoon, and immediately came looking for this thread. Why?

I leave work-it’s a Friday afternoon, so we’re all trying to get out pretty quickly. Rush hour is starting, though since the train takes me almost door to door, I don’t stress about it too much.

I start down the Peachtree Center escalator, moving at my usual pace. About a quarter of the way down, I glance ahead, and see three kids(ok, teenagers) sitting on the stairs, eating. 2 on one step, 1 on another.

Having no mercy for people who are in everyone’s way, I proceed down the stairs and loudly say: "coming through, excuse me!"

They move their feet slightly, giving me about 2 inches of space to step into, and it requires me to pass my foot above their food(hear the tiny violins playing?). I make my way through, my briefcase accidently bumps one of them on the head(not hard, and it really wasn’t intentional…but I couldn’t have planned it better). After I pass them, I hear one of them say “how rude” and I look back to say a couple of choice words, then see 3 more people coming up to do the same thing.

There were 2 ladies further down standing 2 abreast. As I approached them, one moved to the left. I rolled my eyes slightly, and mumbled “excuse me”, because, well, I was raised in the South, and some habits are hard to break.

I just simply cannot believe these kids had the audacity to block the entire escalator that way at the start of rush hour. Hooligans.

Actually, there is one sign that tells you this. It might be in a station downtown, or at Ballston or Crystal City. That’s probably the problem, there. It’s pasted to the side of the escalator, half faded by dust and grime. If I ever see it again, I’ll get a camera and take a picture. This is the rare shit that the National Archives go nuts over.

Montfort and Mojo: Sure, some of us Country folk are simple bumpkins, but dont blame your being late or in a rush on us. If you city people would give yourself PLENTY of time to get where you are going, you wouldn’t have to rush around all the time. Imagine that.
