“March 15th: I wish I’d brought a TV, oh god how I miss TV!”
Best of luck jjimm, hope all goes well!
Thanks!
Thankfully I don’t watch it. Not like that kinda snotty “oh I wouldn’t have one in my house” thing, but I genuinely can’t be bothered. I can’t really concentrate on anything for more than a few minutes unless it’s something I absolutely love. I have (well, had - got rid of it two days ago) a massive HD LCD TV, but I turned it on maybe once a month (unless my girlfriend was round, in which case we had to watch Embarrassing Bodies while she howled with laughter at the unfortunates…).
Cheers man.
I wish you the best of luck!
Seriously, good luck!
Sucks to be me, because I’ll never get to do anything like this.
Good luck!
Well, jjimm, it’s not something I’d ever do and I’m an introvert and semi-loner. But you’re not me and probably better for it :). Best of luck and I hope it works out for you.
At the very least I’m sure you’re going to be getting a good story out of this, published or not.
Very cool! I hope you have a wonderful time.
jjimm, I wish you all the luck in the world.
Best of luck, jjimm! Don’t forget about gravity.
Best wishes on your new venture, jjim. It sounds awesome. I know I don’t have the self-discipline for it but I admire those who are willing to try. I think it will be a great adventure because even if you don’t last the full six months, you will have learned a lot about yourself.
Never be afraid to grow.
I think you can do them every three months. They keep talking about cracking down on that, but to date nothing much has happened on that front and many farangs still do them.
As well, although the fine for overstaying the visa has risen to (I think) 500 baht a day, the maximum fine remains capped at 20,000 baht (409 pounds sterling). As long as you’re willing to fork it over when you leave, there’s usually no repercussions. I’m not suggesting you do that, but it is something to keep in mind as a worst-case scenario.
Good luck, be careful and have fun!
Thanks - but I’m not planning to be in Thailand (though one of my Thai friends, when he heard I was unemployed, offered me work as a farmhand!). I’ll be somewhere you bastards won’t be able to find me.
Wishing you luck!
I’m thinking my life too is about to take a radical change.
As you may remember (or not) my business of two years failed. I have taken temp work to build some cash, but soon I will decide what “the next big thing is.” I don’t *have *to make a change - these guys look like they might keep me for a long time - but I am bored and miserable.
I am thinking it will involve a move to my next job - but I have to decide where. When I was younger this was so very common, I never minded. But now I’m near 50 and I’m looking at it with some angst. Not because I doubt my ability to find something… but because of inertia, because I want the next thing to be the thing, and for other reasons I haven’t sorted out in my brain yet.
In any case - luck to you!
Sounds like an interesting adventure. Hope it goes well, and I’m glad you will have a cell phone and such just in case.
Also: Right now this thread is sequential with the one announcing Eve’s return. How convenient…has anyone seen jjimm and Eve in the same room!?
Eve is back? I hadn’t seen, but am very glad.
Good luck jjimm - I am filled with admiration; I’m a very extroverted person too, and the idea of 6 months of basically just my own company fills me with horror. I hope you learn what you need and find what you’re looking for.
I look forward to hearing how you’re getting on, so please do update us from time to time, if you have a chance!
Speaking as someone who feels adventuresome whenever he orders something other than the Grand Slam off of the Dennys breakfast menu, my hat is off to you.
How on earth did you arrange lodging? Will you be earning an income, or just subsisting on whatever funds you bring with you? How far are the nearest neighbors?
Wishing you all the best, and looking forward to hearing about it.
mmm
I haven’t arranged lodging yet. I will stay in a guesthouse until I find what I’m looking for via the jungle grapevine. I will have no income but will also live like a pauper (except for cigarettes and monthly R&R). Don’t know about my nearest neighbors, but the nearest commercial habitation will be a few miles away on foot, and as I said I will be visiting once a week to keep in touch via email and restock provisions.
My girlfriend will visit in December for 2/3 weeks and we’ll be having a vacation, and maybe another friend will come out for a week or so in the new year, and we’ll go on a little adventure together.
