Stanley Cup Playoffs

WAAAAHHHHHH!

—Pens fan
Sigh. Charlie Brown once said, "Sometimes I wake up and feel like I’m going to have a good day, but then it always turns out to be a bad day. Sometimes I think I’m going to have a bad day, and sure enough, I have a bad day.

"Why can’t I ever think I’m going to have a good day, and then have a good day? Or why can’t I think I’m going to have a bad day and then have a good day?

“My stomach hurts…”

That’s how I feel about the Pens. Why can’t they look like they’re going to win, and then win? Or look like they’re going to lose, and then win anyway?

My stomach hurts…

Of course, that’s partly because I ate too fast, and that during the third period.

That’s for damn sure. I take no pleasue at all over having been right about the Pens going down once they lost Game 4. The fact that they COULD have swept the Flyers in four games just makes it worse. But…as the Penguins have shown time and again over the last decade, they can’t suck it up after losing a series lead. They can come back from a deficit, but if they get ahead they have to stay ahead.

Oh well…at least I can enjoy the rest of the playoffs now, since I couldn’t care less about any of the remaining teams.

EASTERN CONFERENCE FINAL

Philly came back from a 2-0 deficit in the second round, and they overtook the Devils to win the division during the regular season. But the Devils are looking good right now…and I think they are the better team. I’d kind of prefer the Pens’ collapse was against the eventual Conference champs…but I don’t think it was. Prediction: New Jersey

WESTERN CONFERENCE FINAL

I’ve already said I think the Stars will beat Colorado, and I haven’t changed my mind. I keep hearing about how Ray Bourque is gonna lead the Avs to the Promised Land, but one aging defenseman isn’t enough. An Avs/Devils Final would probably be more interesting to watch–and between being the Kansas City Scouts and the New Jersey Devils, the franchise was the Colorado Rockies, which I think would make an interesting subplot–but I don’t expect it. Prediction: Dallas. (But it should be a good one.)

And my predictions are…

Philadelphia (assuming, that is, that Primeau isn’t out for long after having his clock cleaned, polished, and given a complete overhaul by Boughner) for the East.

Colorado (even without Bourque, this is a team that is playing well, and with confidence. I think Roy wants one last sip from Stanley’s mug before calling it a day) for the west.
