> The only other thing of consequence I can remember is that she killed the Klingon that was trying to kill her when she went to investigate the Klingon ship. Yeah, I thought that they were hanging a lot of shit on her that didn’t belong there. She mutinied, but it had no effect whatsoever on the war. It was over before she could do anything the Klingons would notice. Maybe everyone just needed someone to blame the war on, and since she committed mutiny at the time the war was about to start, she got blamed for it all.

I feel she is partially to blame for that. She basically admitted all guilt for anything they wanted to pile on her (after the battle).

We’re probably going to learn why the Klingons looked different during TOS.

Here’s a thought. Discovery is the real timeline. Something happens to create the TOS timeline we’re used to. The ships, the Klingons…etc…

You mean in contradiction to the explanation from _Enterprise_?

Huh. I always thought it was originally “Gerry-rigged,” in reference to Gerry the German somehow. Shows how wrong we can be: ☹

I wasn’t aware of the _Enterprise_ explanation. Last I knew about it was the Deep Space 9 where Worf declined to discuss it.

> **OK, can someone explain why they are dumping the 8000-odd casualties on Burnham?** Not just the other characters, but it seems she blames herself for them too. But didn’t her mutiny amount to absolutely nothing? She nerve pinched the captain, tried to “Vulcan Hello” the Klingons, but before anyone actually listened to her, the captain was up on her feet saying “belay that order” and sending her to the brig. It was all of, what, 5 minutes? and the Klingons didn’t open fire until after Captain Yeoh sent her message of peace, right? Or am I misremembering? the Shenzhou never actually fired first, did they?
>
> The only impact Burnham actually had on the war starting was killing T’kuvma and making him a martyr, and that was well after the battle.

We didn’t say it was her fault, we’re blaming her.

8k casualties, a fleet admiral, her captain is dead and she is a muntineer. CNN will having her kick puppies and drown kittens next, of course she is available for the blame game.

> Which timeline is this supposed to be?

As has been mentioned this is in the Prime timeline with TOS.

For some perspective on where it fits in:

- 2151-2161: Star Trek Enterprise (the series)

- 2245: USS Enterprise commissioned (so yes, the Enterprise is flying around somewhere in the Discovery universe with Christopher Pike as its captain).

- 2255: Star Trek Discovery. Kirk would be about 22 at the start of this show.

- 2265 - 2269: Star Trek: TOS starts and James T. Kirk becomes captain of the Enterprise.

- 2273 - 2293: Star Trek: TOS movies

- 2364 - 2370: Star Trek: TNG

- 2293 - 2379: Star Trek: TNG movies

- 2369 - 2375: Star Trek: DS9

- 2371 - 2378: Star Trek: Voyager

Puh leeze. You know damn well who CNN will blame. Yeoh and Burnham had the whole thing under control until the crazy admiral showed up.

I’m not sure I remember this the way you seem to remember it. Do you mean beaming onto a hostile ship, or inter-ship beaming in general.

Intraship beaming, i.e., transporting within one vessel. The only time this was done that I recall was in “Day of the Dove.” Spock said it had seldom been done because of the degree of precision that was required.

I don’t believe Scotty had to jury-rig anything to accomplish this, though a simple solution would have been to have closed-circuit transporter booths throughout the ship, like the receiving units we saw on DSS K-7 in “The Trouble with Tribbles.”

</div>

I think I like the “anthology” feel it has. The Star Trek universe is huge, with so many stories and ideas to explore. It’s refreshing this has its own tone and style, and has nothing to do with the Enterprise or a flagship of some sort. Discovery feels like a secret black ops ship playing with technologies and sciences Star Fleet probably doesn’t play with to a great extent.

I was taken aback by the casual use of intraship beaming. Usually they use the time walking down corridors so the actors can engage in some dialogue and exposition. Nah, let’s just beam right there and get on with it.

OK, gotcha. Yeah, I think we’re going to get used to this sort of thing if we continue to watch this show. I’m just kissing off trying to place the events of Discovery in relation to the rest of Trek. This is alterna-Trek. This is sci-fi that kinda-sorta reminds me of trek in some ways.

OTOH, this weirdness and secrecy surrounding the Discovery might explain why things that are done on that ship aren’t known and passed about the fleet as common knowledge. Bet that comes up in a lot of fanwanks.

I like it, but I also have a great big huge ‘look the other way from plot-holes’ temperament. I like the look, the actors, the atmosphere and most of the story, although for an anthology, there’s an awful lot of contrivances to carry the plot along. “I’ve lost the captains life-signs and must beam you back”, there was one that struck me on the current episode, but it escapes me. Kinda like when the kids split up in the spooky mansion when doing so is a bad idea.

Shushing Dead Klingons?

and I’m liking The Orville while I’m not bored with it’s plot constraints.

It’s like Top Gear and The Grand Tour…double the fun travel sportscar shows, what’s not to like?

Well, tits can’t run by themselves, so they’d have to be attached to somebody. Hopefully a pretty somebody. Andelorian prisoners are stripped of all clothing when they’re arrested, so maybe a pretty tit owning prisoner escapes and runs wildly through the courtroom, shouting, “STD’s for all. Make it so. Live long and Prosper, suckas.”

In the version I know, it was a small village in Africa where the inhabitants learned everything they knew about the British legal system from reading the tabloids. 😃
