So, why (is it explained?) is Book attached to the _Discovery,_ again? Is Star Fleet paying for his services as a smuggler/deniable asset? ---

So is everyone basically hate-watching this now? I dropped out at the end of season 2. The only good Star Trek since the original movies is _Lower Decks_. I have some hope for Strange New Worlds, but given that it’s got the same creative people as Discovery behind it, I am prepared to be disappointed. ---

basically - there are ‘just enough’ good elements to the show to keep watching, hoping beyond reason that they might pull off something interesting. The bad elements have become a drinking game. I have high hopes for Strange New Worlds - the best part of season 2 was Pike and the Enterprise. ---

Star Trek suffers from the same problem as Star Wars: Decades of ‘world building’ by numerous non-SF writers has made their universes incoherent and stupid. None of it males any sense and you could drive starships through the plot holes and contradictions. Both rely way too much on technobabble and magic to get themselves out of predicaments the writers put them in. Both still work when they are character driven, provided the characters are interesting and well drawn, but that’s becoming pretty rare. ---

Missed the edit window. I actually am enjoying this season more than, say the first. I just get annoyed at how ponderous it is sometimes. I hope the out of the Galaxy threat is the Kelvins. ---

I can’t be the only one who is irritated as hell by Soong-android boyfriend and 32nd century Wesley Crusher. If he and they could be both pushed out of an airlock, it would improve the show immensely. ---

Come now. TNG Picard could be pretty trigger happy when he wanted to be. Usually when Romulans were involved. Actually when it involved Romulans all of TNG era Starfleet dispensed with the fiction of “we are not a military” and went full Rambo. In the first Season, right at the height of the Roddenbury inspired “we are more evolved phase”, in the episode when Riker became a BDSM submissive o. that planet of Dominatrixes, a couple of sub-space radio reports of Romulans activity made Picard all Hornblowerish. ---

I thought last week’s episode was the last before the hiatus, but here’s one more. This one is a bottle episode, but instead of tense character-driven search for Annie’s pen, one plot thread has a debate that makes the Galactic Senate debate on the blocade of Naboo look like a heady action sequence, and another plot thread has SAL 9000 figuring out the coordinates for the aliens but refusing to tell until an hour later she changes her mind and tells by printing a long string of numbers on a small screen as the dramatic denouement of the episode. Also, SAL 9000 has glurgy stalker videos of the Discovery crew being very good friends. (Not a euphemism for boinking.) One bright moment stands out, though. Android boyfriend is leaving. Hopefully to a farm up-state where he can run and play with other android boyfriends. ---
