Stop the presses. I liked this episode. A _lot._ Yeah, I hate what they’re doing with T’Pol. And yeah, I still utterly _loathe_ time travel stories, particularly in the _Trek_ universe. But I thought this hour was all kinds of fun anyway. They had actual _continuity!_ T’Pol remembers she went to Detroit! They still have the Xindi shuttle from last week! They didn’t all submit to a mass selective lobotomy to remove any useful information they might carry from episode to episode. They had an actual _plot!_ You couldn’t tell from the first five minutes what would be happening in the last five minutes! They had actual _characters!_ Archer was legitimately conflicted about knocking out the base on the moon, and it contributed to his decision-making later! They had actual _consequences!_ The Xindi realized that they’d lost contact with the monitoring station and didn’t ignore it! And check out that tracking closeup in on T’Pol’s eyes when she realized the ship was about to be destroyed under her command! And note a subtle touch that kept the “reset button” question up in the air: Sure, it’s possible the ship will be magically restored, but they made a point not to seriously injure any of the major cast members. You know when Hoshi or somebody like that gets killed, the reset button is imminent. This time, they killed a bunch of redshirts instead, and left the principals alone, so as not to give away future plot developments. It’s unrealistic, but necessary to keep us on edge. More like this, please. Dare I hope the show has turned a corner? Actually, I note that almost all of the really good episodes this year have been written by Manny Coto. i missed this episode despite going home specifically to set the vcr, when i forgot to set the vcr, which defeated the whole point of me going home before going off to study. And it sounds like a cool episode. Thank goodness for the internet, i should have it by friday. ---

It’s a point of sloppy writing and military protocol. As captain, T’Pol should want the comment “We’ve lost all hull plating” and the comment “We’ve lost all hull plating polarization” to be distinct. One means that that there’s a crewman on D deck commenting “My but it’s beautiful out here” just before he explodes. The other means that she’s got a few minutes to get to a shuttle pod. Unfortunately, she choses the one lined with Trellium-D. Insanity unsues. ---

Well, Hoshi is supposed to get a lot more screen time within the last few episodes of the season, so we’ll see. According to the scoop at [Startrek.com](http://Startrek.com), T’Pol is addicted to Trellium-D, and that’s why she’s so emotional lately. Re the poor folks who go flying out into space…Perhaps one of them is Cutler? Since the upcoming ep. “Damage” is supposed to show the crew mourning their lost ones, maybe they’ll finally give her a tribute. And I guess that’s not a reset if these people are gone for good. ---

I’ve evidently stepped through the looking glass. It’s nice to see some constants though… this \*\*cplant \*\* can’t code much better than mine and this \*\*NCB \*\* is just as spastic as the other. I wonder what this universe’s me is like. ---

But if it’ll make you feel more at home, I **can** whine about this: The Xindi have a lookout outpost on a moon. This moon rotates. While the lookout outpost is facing away from Azati Prime, it is out of line-of-sight with the Xindi and cannot relay what it sees to the people who care about what it sees. Yet, if its function truly is a **lookout** post, it would have the best chance of spotting incoming invaders when it **was** facing away from Azati Prime. Good Gravy, have the Xindi never heard of **communication relay satellites**? Or running a couple thousand miles of cable from their lookout posts to broadcasting antennas on the **other side** of the damn moon? You don’t build a station whose purpose is to warn against interlopers, and then make it unable to warn against interlopers! ---
