Act I: Quantum doesn’t trust anybody he doesn’t know. 1st reference of religion is a Scientology type of statement about medical care. Ah… the Expanse is called the Chosen Realm by PTP. PTP worship the spheres, or so they say. And, now we have a Creationism vs Science type mini debate with T’Pol and head PTP guy. PTP Babe got big ol’ titties! 😃 I can’t quite put my finger on the religious type they’re portraying. And why do they ALL have pony tails? With the tattoos and stuff, they resemble American Indians. Yet the suicide bombing smacks of Palestinians. :dubious: ---

Act II: Phlox rocks! I do believe Tripp’s been working out. Quantum used the right word: Murder. You can see the hate in his expressionless face as he says those other words under his breath. :rolleyes: They are warring against a violent group of heretics undermining their very way of life. Now they’re sounding like a mix of militant Islam and ultra-fundie Christianity with a healthy helping of Inquisition (I wasn’t expecting that!) Deleting the data got a bigger rise out of Quantum than killing that crew member. [this is a long act…] It’s looking like a Isreal / Palestine situation now… Quantum did good in his debate with Head PTP Guy. And one of a good descision on which crew member to sacrifice, though we did see that coming, now didn’t we? ---

Act III: Finally, a good use of the transporter as a secret technology! (Site to site, I’m guessing.) Porthos! AOL Instant Messaging still exists. “You’ve got mail.” Okay… now it’s sending up charismatics like David Koresh. I guess they’re just sending up all the bad bits in whatever religion you are thinking of. Another jab at Creationism. 🙂 Sure are a lot of blinking lights in this episode. ---

But I think that for bad to come of blind faith, you need a corrupting agent. There are lots of nice normal believers out there, of many faiths, but very few Fred Phelps or Osamas. ymmv. I think the reasons I like this ep is because of it’s message and its stealing from other series eps, like TNG’s _Starship Mine_ and TOS’ _Wink of an Eye_ ( in adition to _LTBYLB_ ) The dark side of fundie religionists was highlighted all through the ep. And it’s something I believe: In most cases, extremes are bad. In religions, adhering to an extreme often leads to fear. Fear leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering. There are moderates that aren’t bombing buildings or killing abortion doctors, but they may be mistreating a gay family member for example, or allowing ignorance to color their responsabilities to society.
