This week’s episode is really good. It does for the Ferengi what a few episodes back did for the Orions. It’s also pretty monumental on both a canon and character level. ---

God, I love this show. They should have a pre-requisite viewing guide – before watching tonight’s lower decks, make sure to watch DS9, season 3, episode 7 and Enterprise S2E3. I went back and watched the Voyager Tuvix episode _after_ watching the Lower Decks spoof of it. In last night’s episode, they make a joke that I love – “OK, lieutenant junior grades…uh, lieutenants junior grade? Lieutenant juniors grade?” I mostly only get the TOS references and some of the Voyager and TNG. I didn’t watch the other series much. My only concern – Boimler is becoming a bit of a parody of himself. Hopefully, they dial it back a bit. ---

I’ve been enjoying Lower Decks but it occurs to me that some of these deep-dive references to previous Trek shows are lost to me, even though I’ve seen most of the prior shows. ---

Even in the rougher episodes in the beginning of season one, it was always clear that the people making this show really love Star Trek. ---
