I bailed on this season after the first episode when I realized it was going to be a time travel plot. I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate the time travel episodes. Looks like I made a good decision. ---

Ones that actually explore the concept of time travel and all the attendant contradictions and issues in interesting ways 2. Ones that are quirky 3. Ones that are done because they’re tired or too cheap to have futuristic set design and say “fuck it, let’s set this in California in the present day.” Picard S2 is clearly example 3. ---

He sacrificed his career, he earned the ride-along. Also, the actor’s performance was a big plus to this season. ---

I think he just wanted proof that aliens exist. He wanted to believe and Picard being… well, grandfatherly about it, probably made him feel relief. And I forget, but doesn’t he get fired because his superiors are tired of him crying wolf so often? So he couldn’t detain them after Picard revealed he knew about Vulcans anyways? ---

I’m in the odd position of, well, having _enjoyed_ the finale. Normally I nitpick and complain, and Picard hasn’t been my favorite show, but I liked how they wrapped things up. I’m not wild about time-travel stories, and they just took one of the biggest, “big bads” of the series and completely changed their origin and nature. Not sure if I approve of the time-travel Borg overhaul on principle (OK, there’s my nitpick) but I did like the story, so I’m conflicted. Finally, I was surprised that they brought back, “The Traveler” plotline and tied it in, and I liked that as well. I haven’t enjoyed TV much lately, and I’m pretty sure Strange New Worlds is gonna have me apoplectic by tomorrow. I think I’ll just take the “W” for this episode and not think about it too hard. ---

No posts about last week’s episode and only one so far about this week’s - I think people are probably tuning out of this show. And fair enough, it’s a pretty big meh. I don’t hate watching it but there’s nothing really compelling about it either. ---

I thought the Rios arc was a bit strange but all the rest really were pretty good. And Q got to go out with a hug. ---

I admit I was not only surprised to see Wesley, I was even a little pleased. Must be getting soft. As much as this season looked like it was going to be a lot more fun and old-school than season one, I was pretty meh about a lot of it. The stuff with Picard’s mom I could have done without entirely, and I’m glad they wrapped it up in episode nine so it wouldn’t be hanging over the finale. The do-over with the Borg is good at least insofar as the show can’t keep coming back to them as the Big Bad — whatever caused that cosmic whatzahoozit in episode 10 is obviously dangerous enough to even give the Borg pause, which could, potentially, give the final season some added interest.
