I am a Star Wars fan, always have been. I saw ep 1-3 during the midnight showings, and liked them all. I bought all the DVD’s. So, yesterday, I buy the new DVD. Im all excited, cant wait to get home and watch it again. I make myself dinner, pop in the DVD and begin to watch. Thirty-mins later, I turn the damn thing off in disgust. Did this movie just get crappier since theater release? Or have I been fooling myself? The beginning fight scene was just so damn silly! The forced jokes between Obi-Wan and Anakin made me cringe. The way they make Yoda talk in that stupd backwards way EVERY TIME HE OPENS HIS MOUTH, just was the worse ever. R2-D2…Need I say more? Why oh why, or, how oh how, could I have liked this movie 8 months ago, but now be so disgusted with it I dont think I will bother watching the rest!! Someone help me out here. Is it me? Or is this movie just really bad? ---

“Includes Deleted Scenes created specially for this release!” :dubious: Good trick, that. Yeah, yeah, I know, they deleted them before post-production, then “created” them by doing the post-production process, but still… ---

I am not a fan of the prequels, but my wife is, and she _really_ liked #2. However, she had much the same reaction that the OP describes to the new release. And she had been looking forward to Nov. 1st just to get that DVD, and then sounded kind of miffed that it didn’t stand up to this viewing. She particularly noticed that the musical score wasn’t as strong (in her opinion). That’s all I’ve got. 🙂 ---

I found it to be a little bit better because now I can hit Fast Forward anytime Natalie Portman and Hayden Christiansen share a scene. Lord, those were getting painful to watch. ---

I’m watching the opening with my wife. She yawns four minutes in. “What?” “This is the same as the last two. They fly, they get out the fight, the run some place else and then they fight and then fly… nothing really happens…” “No they… wait… They do more than run and fight they… fly… sabre fight… then Mace fights the emporer…there is a huge war and… damn… wait… no… wait.” Suddenly it was like watching the animated clone wars… big battle scenes and a few lines of dialogue between but little else as real story. Nice looking battles though. ---

When did George Lucas forget that Yoda is capable of talking _forwards?_ His dialogue in the prequel trillogy is like a bad parody of how he speaks in the originals. ---

Really, you know it’s sad when you are happy to see a movie like this just because it’s such a goddamn improvement over the previous one, which nearly made me throw up. George Lucas cannot do romance to save his life. ---

What almost killed me was the October 27 issue of _Variety_ had a two page spread, “For Your Consideration Best Picture, Rick McCallum Best Director, George Lucas Best Actor, Hayden Christianson Best Supporting Actor, Ian McDiarmid, Ewan McGregor, Sam Jackson Best Original Screenplay, George Lucas Best Supporting Actress, Natalie Portman” And a bunch of other technical considerations. On the facing page is a CGI Yoda with a lightsaber in hand. The sheer balls of this ad staggered me. Ep 3 deserves whatever costume, effects, or sound nominations it may get, but screenplay? Directing? ACTING?!? The CGI Yoda chosen for the add is a further kick in the nuts, neatly summarizing a _major_ flaw with the new trilogy- CGI characters are NOT ready for prime time! I don’t care how many computers and programmers it took to make Yoda, Jar Jar, Dex Jettster (whoever), an those gawdawful arena creatures in ep 2, they don’t look real! Look at a 1977 Stormtrooper next to a 21st Century CloneTrooper, the Stormtroopers look better! Quit bragging that all the CloneTroopers are CGI, WE KNOW! WE CAN TELL! They look like fucking cartoons! I’m at a loss- Best Picture?? Best Director?? Screenplay??
