I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited, but my inner cynic was thinking a more appropriate title would be Star Wars: The Nostalgic Pandering Awakens. And it worked, judging from this general internet reaction. I wonder if there will be anything original and interesting in this movie, or if it’ll just be recycled iconic images, music and dialogue from the originals, a la the Star Trek reboots. I cringed a little when the old and busted Harrison Ford showed up, just like when they trotted out the old and busted Nimoy. Like it lends the movies gravitas or something. Personally, it just invites comparisons to the older works, which is usually a losing game for the derivatives. Knock on wood.

> Darth Vader’s burned helmet and Luke’s voice saying “my father HAS it” make me wonder if Anakin is what has awakened (now played by Ashton Kutcher).

One possible way to explain this being spoken in the present tense is that, from Luke’s perspective, Anakin/Vader is still an active force ghost, occasionally taking an active role and giving Luke advice. So, Luke considers Anakin/Vader as merely “at One with the Force”, and not quite dead (yet).

My guess on the plot would be:

- Luke and Han had twins, one boy and one girl

- Rey, the girl, did not become a Jedi, but will now have to train

- The boy, Kylo Ren, has fallen to the Dark Side and worships his grandfather. He strives for power.

- Rey has to train to become a Jedi to attempt to pull her brother back to the light. Luke will train her, mainly in episode VIII.

- John Boyega also awakens to the Force. I know nothing about his character, though.

I am so stupidly excited for this movie. I think the fact that BB8 _isn’t_ wholly CGI bodes really well. That says that they’re not taking what’s become the easy way and just letting greenscreen fix everything.

I mean, that’s not how I expected that love triangle to resolve, but it’s great that they adopted!

Well, that was embarassing.

:smack:

Leia.

Han and LEIA had twins.

Now, I’m sure everyone here is very mature and I won’t be ridiculed about this and no one will make funny puns or carry on too far about my simple mistake. Right, everyone?

Sorry, but even though I’m not a\* Star Wars\* nerd, I was the perfect age (12) when I saw the original, and I loved \*Empire \*(15), but absolutely hated _Jedi (18) and after much denial finally admitted to hating the prequels, I still absolutely love hearing the crowd go crazy upon seeing Cheewie and Ford at the end of this trailer. It just works!_

And I doubt that Abrams will go too heavy on the old stuff. If anything the fans will complain that he only gave lip service to the originals. Personally, I think extended cameos are just the right fit for this trilogy…

I do have admit that seeing Old Han was the weakest part of the trailer. Old Wizened Jedi Luke works perfectly. Old Harrison Ford phoning it in is sad. The clip didn’t change my opinion.

Well, maybe it _wasn’t_ a mistake. Luke _did_ have a twin (Leia) and maybe Han did too.

Imagine the audience reaction if an aging Han Solo shows up to gun down some unsuspecting bad guy who never gets off a shot.

Huh? In just 4 minutes of 2 trailers I’ve seen, I’ve seen the Falcon, Tie Fighters chasing the Falcon, the Falcon inexplicably flying through narrow pipes with Ties following, Stormtroopers, Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, R2, X-Wings, Darth, Tatooine (presumably), Yavin (presumably), Star Destroyers, several quotations from the original 3, music from the original 3.

Abrams is utterly relying on the vintage stuff. He understands the angst fomented from the last 3 movies and correctly deduced it was because of the diversion. He gets it.

The first teaser was all new stuff besides a half second of the Falcon. This one was more old stuff. I am sure the movie will be a mix. Of course it will be derivative to a point. It is set in that world after all.

“That’s no pipe.”

It’s the [rear engine](http://www.theforce.net/swtc/Pix/dvd/zs/tesb/exechoth4.jpg) of an upside down Super Star Destroyer (about 10x the size of your garden variety Star Destroyer).
