> Let’s see here, Lucas has said that there was going to be nine films, then he said that there were only going to be six. _Return of the Jedi_ was never supposed to be called _Revenge of the Jedi_ and that was only a myth. He’s also said that he wasn’t going to release anything on DVD because he wasn’t sure how long the format was going to be popular, then he said that he was going to wait until he was finished with the entire prequel trilogy before releasing any of them on DVD, and now, of course, he’s released the two latest films, plus a boxed set of his Crayola versions of the original trilogy on DVD. On the documentary which comes with the boxed set for the Crayola versions of the original trilogy, Lucas makes some very veiled comments which could be interpreted as he’d be willing to make more movies in the saga. There’s the rumor that the folks at ILM have had to sign a confidentiality agreement in regards to a new trilogy of films.

The most recent soliid rumour I’ve heard is that following Clone Wars S2 and S3, a live-action TV series set in the post-Jedi Star Wars universe may come to pass. That would be good to see, if only because it would be a genre show that even the most dumbfuck executive wouldn’t have the stones to axe.

I’m not afraid they’ll axe it. I’m afraid they’ll fuck it up. How often does a movie or movie franchise lead to a TV series that isn’t a total abortion and an obscene abomination of desolation? The only example that comes readily to mind is _Buffy,_ and I’m very much afraid that was a fluke.

WRT the above, I’m thinking specifically of the _Logan’s Run_ TV series, the _Planet of the Apes_ TV series (both prime-time live-action and Saturday-morning animated), and every made-for-TV _Star Wars_ show I’ve ever seen, live or animated.

There were also very short-lived and forgettable sitcoms based on the films _What’s Up, Doc?_ and _Party Girl_ and . . . I can’t go on.

But of course! At the time Lucas first made _Star Wars_, the special effects technology wasn’t sophisticated enough to show Greedo firing first.

The Clone Wars cartoons, which I think are better than both prequels combined, come to mind.

It’s never wise to underestimate dumbfuck TV executives.

Highlander? Stargate? M_A_S\*H? Alien Nation?

_M_A_S_H\* was a classic, I admit. _Highlander_ had its moments. _Stargate_ and _Alien Nation_ rate an “eh.”

_Stargate SG-1_ is the Sci-Fi channel’s top-rated show, and has done something like 7 seasons. It’s more than just “eh.”

I will admit, however, that _Stargate_ (like _Buffy_) presents a rare example of a movie-based TV series being a noticeable improvement over the movie it’s based on.

Not that that’s setting the bar very high, in this case.

I have to concede that. The original movie _Stargate_ was pretty boring. If I wasn’t already a fan of the series, I would have lost interest in the movie about half-way through.
