> OK, here’s your cite: _Star Wars, the Essential Chronology_ by Kevin J. Anderson and Daniel Wallace.
>
> “…Over the next thousand years the Sith remained in hiding. Following the strict dictate of Darth Bane, there were never more than two Sith Lords at one time-a master and an apprentice. The Sith meditated on the dark side and codified their teachings. Like monks in a hermitage, they waited in isolation for a chance to strike at the Jedi Knights.”

The idea of only two Sith at any one time is recent, isn’t it? By recent, I mean that it was thought up in the Expanded Universe and not during the original trilogy.

Maybe that’s why the OP was confused about Vader’s attempt to bring Luke to the Dark Side knowing that it could mean his own death. The “only two Sith” concept did not yet exist when Lucas made _ESB_.

> Why the controversy? From the movies I arrived at the conclusion that this particular Jedi was killed, but the clone army was ordered under his name.

Many epople feel that any named character must be vastly important. There are rumors and wilder rumors about Syfo-Dias being
1 Count Dooku
2 Another dark Jedi which Dooku killed
3 Palpatine
4 Palpatine’s Clone
5 you get the idea

Personally, I think it was implied that Jango Fett took Syfo-Dias down.

True, though it didn’t really matter since the Sith were no longer worried about their numbers.

Yeah, but even though Eps 1 & 2 were created alter, they are supposed to be prequels. So unless Lucas & co simply forgot about this situation, there ought to be an explanation.
