# Star Wars Rebels Comes Back Tonight (2/19/18)

I enjoy this show but can’t remember how it ended. I may have even missed some episodes because my DVR did not always catch it. Anyone remember where we left off?

I’ve just watched the first two episodes of the return - “Jedi Night” and “DUME”
Spoiling just in case, and for speculation as well.
I’m pretty sure Kanan bought it, as much as any Jedi ever does. Massive explosion, heroic death - these are pretty definitive. Coming back as a Loth-wolf avatar strikes me as being a big clue, also. At any rate, that’s my interpretation of the big Loth-wolf.
I’d been rather hoping Kanan would survive. Something like him abandoning his Jedi mantle in order to marry Hera, explaining why no-one ever mentioned him as a remaining Jedi, as he wasn’t one anymore. Bit of a reach, I suppose.
I enjoyed both episodes, though Thrawn is one of my least favourite major EU characters. At least he appears to have read some of the Evil Overlord list, and isn’t sabotaging himself at every single opportunity like the other Imperial bigwigs do.
I like that the second episode was largely about dealing with loss, and fear. I also liked the quick shout-out to Rogue, when Thrawn mentioned competing with funding with Krennic.
Of the remaining characters, we know Hera survives at least as far as the Battle of Endor, as she’s seen in one of the “Forces of Destiny” shorts there. There’s some indication that Rex survives, though it’s not been officially confirmed that the oldster on Endor is Rex - sure looks like him.
Sabine and Zeb - much as I like them - could fairly easily assumed to be just around after the events of Rebels, just not in any noticeable way. I’d guess, though, that Sabine will bugger off to Mandalore and work from there, and Zeb will head to New Lasat. Or they might die. Just because I like them doesn’t mean they’re safe.
Ezra…hmmm. My genre savviness sense says that he’s not gonna die, but if he lives that’d be a big whole in Star Wars continuity. Best guess, at this point, is that he’ll become one with the Force, specifically on Lothal - sort of a spirit of protection, interspersed with the wildlife of that planet. Probably in a way that’s a big blow to the Empire.

I was expecting what happened to happen sometime. It is part of the Hero’s Journey, after all. But with the termination of the Tie Defender program per the trailers, the Empire has no use for Lothal, so the Rebels win. On Lothal at least.

I have no idea if this needs to be spoilered, but: I reckon Ezra will die too. Possibly go dark, then die. Or, it could even be possible that when Yoda told Obi Wan that “no, there is another,” it could be retconned to mean Ezra, especially since there was never any indication in any canon that Leia was ever seen as a potential Jedi, or even all that Force sensitive (the Mary Poppins float, notwithstanding).

Yeah, but you have to remember that Yoda and Obi-wan were madmen, training Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader’s kids to confront him and kill him if necessary. Believing that no one else could bring him down.
There are plenty of other force-sensitives out there that are neither Jedi nor Sith. That’s been made clear with plenty of examples; Moz for one. And in Rebels, the Inquisitor’s other function is to gather force sensitive children like the Jedi did before them. The two Sith - Vader and the Emperor, are not the only force wielders on their side and were in fact building their own organizations of them.
It only makes sense there would be lone people here and there, small bands or neutral operations out there, to varying degrees of training and seriousness, likely being co-opted if the Empire found out about them.
However, I don’t want to see that path for Ezra, as easy as it would be based on exposure to both Sith and Jedi holocrons, as it’s too easy an out for the character and would require him to suddenly stop fighting, run away and hide.
I’m hoping that they leave his story open, so another story, set during the first trilogy, can tell that.
I’d still like to see my live action Mandalore trilogy set during the original trilogy and featuring Sabine Wren, Bo-Katan Kreiz and maybe Ezra Bridger and Thrawn. Set each movie about the same time as the originals. Ezra killed at the climax of the second one, Thrawn and Bo-Katan in the third. Leaving Sabine at the end.

LOL, remember project Orion. Detonate a nuke under a plate and go into orbit. I would not be surprised if what bio mass is left, is floating in low orbit after that refinery went bloooie.

Forgot to thank you for the summary. It was helpful and confirmed I hadn’t missed anything. As far as the shows:
Like others I long suspected Kanan was going to die so this wasn’t a huge shock. I think it is permanent. I think Ezra, on the other hand, will live to see the end of the series. There are lots of Force Users out there in the Galaxy even after the Jedi Purge and if you want to quibble he technically isn’t a Jedi. I think maybe another character may not survive the finale but not sure. The rest will probably get bittersweet endings probably since the fight doesn’t truly end until the Movies

ETA: I can’t help but think they’ve got something more planned for Ahsoka. She’s got a pretty rich story that could go beyond the two series and the novel.

Filoni doesn’t exactly say that. He says he puts her back where she was. He doesn’t say he puts her back when she was.
