I think it’s more likely that she is Luke’s child. He either knew about her and chose to stay away because he had failed Ren or others chose to keep her away from him out of that same fear. If they want her to be someone else’s child, she could be Obi Wan Kenobi’s child or Emperor Palpatine’s (the latter I find particularly unlikely but could be interesting in it’s own way). I think it would be just a little anti-climactic for her to be no one in particular. And Fin already gives us a hero plucked from obscurity. ---

Well, we know one of the recent owners/thieves had been working on it, because they installed the compressor override, or whatever it was that Han and Rey were complaining about. But that’s definitely a case where a couple of quick lines of dialog explaining that: (a) it had been worked on enough to be flight ready and (b) Rey had been one of the people working on it, explaining why she was so familiar with its systems would have been appreciated. ---

I think they should have reworked the story so that they had a chance for a breather during which Rey worked on the ship while hiding out and got it ready to fly. ---

My theory is that the junk dealer had been deliberately keeping the Falcon in ready-to-go condition while making everyone think it was a piece of non-functional junk. Perhaps as an emergency escape plan he could use, perhaps as part of the deeper backstory of why Rey was left on the planet, or perhaps he just didn’t want it flying until he figured out a way to block whatever method Han used to detect it and track it down the moment it took off.
