I was 27 when the first one came out, and long past the point where I could enjoy “crappy kids movies.” I thought (and my friends agreed) that Star Wars was the coolest thing we had ever seen on a movie screen when we were not influenced by illegal substances.
Like** Archergal** I also thought the second flick was a worthy effort, although the franchise was beginning to run a little dry in the third one.
Probably the best movies ever for parent-kid bonding, all the way from “oooooh” to “Man, Jar Jar SUCKS!”
Speaking on the originals - I was very young when they came out and grew up watching them all quite often. I actually like some of the thing about them that others dislike:
Most folks hate the ewoks and just wait for the more important and less goofy parts about Lukje fighting Darth. When I was six or seven, I didn’t care about the stupid Emperor cackling away and being boring, the explosions and intrepid little furry guys slinging rocks at powerful machines of destruction was what I craved. Now I just roll with that part because it filled it’s place and really enjoy the drama of the Luke/Vader/Emperor arc.
As for what order to show the films in, my kid’s only 3 1/2 so she sees them all and remembers enough to excitedly shout “Space Ships!”, so I’m happy enough.
