Got yourself arrested on Jemison, eh?
Couldn’t just pay off your bounty?
I had the same problem with the Generdyne quest; I only killed a couple of guards (and I really tried not to, but my stealth wasn’t up to scratch). It got me a bounty that made lots of people hostile, but it was only 650 credits to pay off.
I had a similar problem with the HopeTech questline:
But in this case, there was no bounty. I had to kill Hope and some of his guards. Seemed to be ok… and most of the place wasn’t hostile. But every time I try to enter the building, there are two hostile guards I have to get rid of. No bounty or anything to pay off. And no one else, there or elsewhere, is hostile. Just a weird bug, I guess.
That article misses the best part: anyone using that mod would end up with a nonbinary character!
There was a mod for Cyberpunk that changed the romance options for a lesbian character to romance a male protagonist. Nexus removed that too, because it was going against the developers’ vision. You can still find it if you try and I considered hunting it down for my second playthrough then decided it didn’t feel right.
No, this was literally a faction-altering thing. It wasn’t just throwing a few credits around. I didn’t just kill one guy, I killed everyone. My companion was shooting the workers too, since they flagged as mobs, and so I started shooting them as well cause, hey, loot.
Eek!
I got frustrated and after I was 95% of the way through that mission I got to a spot where after many tries I could absolutely not finish without combat. I ended up killing about a dozen guards. And yes, loot.
But the workers ran away and cowered, and my companion (Andreja) never shot any of them, and neither did I. A couple of times a worker raised their hands as if they were going to punch but always ran before getting close. (I was in full body armor and was mowing down guards effortlessly, don’t punch me Mr. Officeworker.)
I got a grumpy talking to and was basically told not to do it again, which prompted me to flip off the commander in real life but act contrite in game. And then went on to the next mission.
I wonder if you accidentally hit a bystander at some point, maybe using an area attack (say, one involving gravity, wink wink nudge nudge) that had collateral damage?
So, a ship landed not far from mine shortly after I disembarked. The ship appeared to be in trouble so, expecting to encounter a captain requesting ship parts, I went back into mine to retrieve some parts.
Upon approaching the other ship, I saw a herd of angry local wildlife pursing somebody. I don’t think that captain will be returning to their ship.
I finally triggered the guards very close to the end… so I just ran through the last bit.
I could have done that but Andreja would have lit them up like the 4th of July with her particle beam gun.
I mean, I could have asked her to stay but I’d had enough. If the game ain’t gonna let me sneak, I ain’t gonna sneak, and peeps are gonna die.
Ultimately it didn’t make a difference.
Is my ship OP? No, it’s the Va’Ruun who are wrong.
I haven’t even maxed out my turret/particle beam skills yet, though I’m working on it.
I’m currently running with 4 fixed particle beams and 4 turrets. Everything melts. And I haven’t put any points in either particle beam weapons or turrets yet either (though I will soon).
In the first encounter with the Starborn I chose to attack and it was no contest; in seconds it zipped away before I destroyed it. Which makes it weird when everyone is in awe of how advanced the ship was, I was like, it seemed pretty lame to me…
Well, it’s still there and will have to stay there until I can pilot a Class B.
I had to go with a different style of turret for three of them just to get a different weapon assignment. I have 3 Obliterators at 4 power each, and 4 PBO-300s at 3 power each. All class C. I just cruise through the Serpentis system when I want some XP or need to rank a skill.
I bought a Shieldbreaker class ship to bump my ship combat abilities up a bit. Big improvement. I’m still only level 30 so I don’t know, and probably cannot, know how to fly a Class C ship or modify ships all that much.
I find that a any difficultly level, ship combat is riskier than ground combat. Ground combat is pretty easy, and if you use cover and flanking and know your weapons there’s rarely any risk, though the first big terrormorph mission required a fair number of medpacks. Ship combat, however, is just math; there isn’t a lot you can do except just lay into the enemy ship with everything you have and get on his six, which isn’t hard, but if you are outgunned you’re outgunned. Your shields can take X shots and that’s just how it is.
If you just sit there and spam the fire button, and don’t stock up on ship parts or strategicslly use boost or ever use targeting mode…
I posted a number of space combat strategies earlier in this thread, based on what I do in combat.
Well, I was assuming one had ship parts. They’re medpacks for your ship.
Pretty much yeah.
Picking off the weaker enemies first, going into target mode and hitting shields to make someone immediately vulnerable, boosting out of crossfire or missile locks, those have won me fights when I was outgunned. Strategy helps a lot.
Skillfully getting “on their six” greatly reduces the damage you take. Focus firing enemy shields or engines also had a massive impact. So does boosting strategically to escape weapons locks.
When doing the quest to repair a comms array for some settlers, I fought multiple groups of pirates in a row. I treated the first few like you mentioned - as a math equation. I quickly used up all my repair kits. Rather than buying more I decided to try and be more strategic for the following fights. I immediately died during the first flight, but then by applying the principles above and prioritizing targets appropriately (in this case, quickly kill weak ships to cut down incoming damage before disabling and boarding the best enemy ship) I was able to take on 3 fights in a row (the last 2 of which were harder than the initial fights that chewed up my repair kits) without needing any repairs as no damage got through my shields.
Finally NG+'d at level 75.
I decided to do the main quest again. The Starborn dialogue options are kinda fun. A lot of “Believe me. You want to do it this way.” and then “Wow, you seem confident. Ok.”
The Starborn ship isn’t so great, and can’t be upgraded. Nabbed a pirate ship that’s better, but I can’t afford to upgrade it much yet. I miss all that money I had saved…
Oh, and I confirmed that research does carry over. I’d unlocked all but a few food/drink/outpost options and was hoping not to lose those.
Some other minor NG+ bits:
The Starborn ship sucks less than I thought. While boosting (as explained above) is always crucial to combat, here it’s even more so. The Starborn ship has crazy boost capability; it’s almost like a teleport. Close to 1000 m/s. And the main gun has very little “charge”, so ships often take 3 passes or so to kill. Instead of just getting shot at while waiting for the recharge, you should boost away while the guns recharge, and then head back in and lay down another burst. That’s kinda the strategy you should use anyway, but it’s more important here. Oh, and the “missile” basically disables their engines, so they can’t easily get away.
At first, I was annoyed by the lack of credits, but honestly it’s not a problem. I’m back up to 300k in short order. The gun drops are mostly “advanced” and often sell for 3-4k each. And the quest rewards are greater. I’m earning 16k on each segment of the Ranger quest, whereas before I think it was 5k. So all in all, not a problem, and I’m close to building another class C ship. My fleet is also already back up to 9 ships with quest rewards and various captures.
