I would not care to speculate what the people of, say, Colorado’s 3rd district must be like to elect someone who has been arrested multiple times and who managed to give food poisoning to 80 people from an illegal food stand they set up. But then Louis Gohmert got elected several times too, so there’s no accounting for taste or sense sometimes. ---

Conservatives have been on the wrong side of history on every important issue since the modern definition of liberalism and conservatism emerged in the late 19th century. There has never been a good conservatism. It always swung to the most horrific opinions and policies of the day. The difference used to be that parties had more than one wing and that allowed some cover for the worst excesses. Other wings than the far, extreme, and crazy-right no longer exist. What you are seeing is pure unadulterated conservatism. Pretty awful, isn’t it? Indefensible. Democracy killing. But that’s the conservatism conservatives have always been defending. The sheet, so to speak, has been pulled off. And as a old-timer who lived through the Vietnam era, I receive joy you cannot possibly imagine in getting to call conservatives commie-lovers. Commie-lover, Commie-lover, Commie-lover! The 60s are laughing hysterically. ---

I’m another old-timer who lived through the Vietnam era. I’ve been tempted to have a t-shirt printed with one of the ubiquitous maps that shows states that went for the Dem as blue, and those who went for the Rep as red. The caption of course would be “Better Dead than Red.” However, I’m quite certain that the typical person wouldn’t get the joke. ---
