I found a state quarter error. I would like to know how much it is worth. I went to [USMintQuarters.com](http://www.usmintquarters.com/) and they had good information, as well as some quarters for sale, but, I would like to get an actual apprasal? Any suggestions?

Joe

DO NOT POLISH it in any way. Do not get yer moist mits on it. Take some photos of it and put it in a safe deposit box wrapped in a very soft cloth. Then start showing the photos around to coin shops, get a better display case for it, etc. Hold on to it for years and years, and it will appreciate in value.

Details?

Ebay, in recent years, has become a good measuring tool for how much collectors items are worth. Try finding similar coins on Ebay and see how much they are selling for. Remember, something is only worth what someone will pay for it.

What’s the error? It depends if it was corrected or not. But if every single one is wrong (like the instruments on the Tennessee quarter), then there’s no premium.

I used to collect coins extensively and had a lot of focus on “mint errors”. I may be able to help you if you can describe the type of error you are seeing.

Error collecting is somewhat specialized. You may or may not be able to get a good appraisal from a coin dealer. You might look for a coin show in your area and take the coin to several tables to get a variety of opinions. I would especially look for dealers who are selling mint errors and thus have some familiarity with them.

The value of mint errors can vary quite widely. I would make sure the coin is kept safe until you have pretty solid data on its value.
