I’m still predicting Gavin Newsom, but probably not until 2024 at the earliest.

> It’s fascinating to see people seeing Biden as super-electable. I like the guy too, on a personal level, but I think he already comes off as a goofball-- and will seem like more of one two years from now. Elderly white goofball is already a somewhat poisonous brand. Of course, I could be totally wrong.

You’re not basing this opinion on Onion articles are you? Because every speech I’ve seen him give in the past few years has oozed sincerity and toughness. Just watch his McCain eulogy.

[Seems like there was a pretty broad consensus that Clinton won the debates.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_debates,_2016)

Whatever her problems may have been, I don’t think her debate performance was high on the list. I mean, it’s always theoretically possible to imagine she might have done better, maybe reduced Trump to tears or something, but…

Ha! No, not basing my opinion on that, although there’s definitely a reason the Onion did that whole shtick. Satire only works when it has a nugget of reality at its core.

I’m predicting how he’ll do when he’s back on the public eye. I worry about him gaffe-ing or rambling. A lot more Han the usual Democrat. And again, I’m being pragmatic — he’d do a decent job, I’d imagine, but I don’t see him because no in sync with the Democratic base and fence-sitting potential Democrats. I could be wrong, of course. (If so, hat-tip to you, President Biden.)

Ugh, this is a terrible stunt. According to _Game Change,_ some in the McCain campaign considered a one-term pledge in 2008. It is an admission of weakness, IMHO, and I can’t get my head around what kind of voter would think it was awesome.

I think the Dems need to nominate someone who can and will do this. We’ve seen Trump run before, and we know what he’ll do now. As much as I think it should and will be a woman; I think too many women in USA politics will make the mistake of trying to be gracious and laugh it off, which is hard to pull off well–or just look scared and intimidated, which is even worse.

Therefore, I suggest we draft Storm Large, or somebody as Stormlike as possible. Or maybe Leah Remini. I’d say hire someone to coach this kind of manner, but if you don’t _already_ have it by the time you’re running for President, we can figure it’s too late for you. Running a woman won’t do any good if she doesn’t have strength and attitude. The President can’t be submissive, at all.

If American Democrats are looking for proven success, how about David Ige, the Governor of Hawaii, if he gets re-elected?

What record of success does David Ige have (I’ve honestly never heard of him)? Hawaii is an extremely Democratic State, so just getting elected Governor there isn’t a particularly impressive achievement.

I think someone who can attack Trump from a streetwise smarts angle rather than an intellectual angle would do well. Someone who could pull off an answer that includes “and unlike my opponent I won’t be Putin’s bitch” during a debate when asked about Russian interference. I’m not sure which candidate could pull off something like that and still seem genuine, but that’s the sort of thing that I think would win voters who are turned off by someone who seems too intellectual.

Cory Booker

He is obviously the candidate most in the Obama mould: youngish, charismatic and black. He is also in the mould of almost every Democratic winning candidate for the last 60 years: youngish, relatively moderate and with an optimistic unifying message.

Compared to some of the other contenders he isn’t positioned too far left which I think will be a liability for the general. My impression is that he has a lot of tactical smarts, finding just the right issues to appeal to the base without committing himself to positions that would be too radical for the general. He will probably be good at raising a lot of money.

I don’t think veep picks matter all that much so it could be a number of people. If there is a tough left-moderate fight in the primaries maybe the leading left candidate, say Warren? Sherrod Brown could also be interesting ; he may both help unite the party and help in the all-important Mid-West. Or perhaps someone of the Biden type: an older experienced figure who would be an asset in governing.
