We always stuck a nail into the potato- a really big nail that was only a little bit shorter than the potato (for safety’s sake, so the end doesn’t point out.) It insured that the inside was heated more efficiently- I think. We have baked potatoes maybe once every 2 years.

That would be a Great Seattle Dish. Salmon and Spiked Potato on Cedar Plank. Be an easy and convenient dish for a camp fire. Bury and Space 5the Cedar Planks with nailed potatoes and fish fillets at the appropriate distance from the fire. You’ll probably have to do a plank of potatoes and the fish seperately with the potatoes closer to the fire and started earlier than the fish.
