Steam holiday sale Dec 20-Jan 2

Does anyone think if King Arthur: The Roleplaying Wargame is worth the USD 9.99?

How about Disciples 3?

Well, I loved it, anyway. Don’t expect a Total War game; the tactical battles are dominated by the use of heroes, magic, and strategic points, and the strategic map is dominated by the plot and text-based adventures. Still a lot of fun, for me. It also has an odd kind of balance; “good” kings have an easier time than “evil” ones, and battles are easier for Old Faith players than Christian ones. To me, that increases the replay value as it provides both variety and increased difficulty. YMMV.

(if you do get it, and I recommend you do, there’s an option to select “weaker archers”. I suggest you use it, as otherwise archer units can really unbalance the game - although of course you can use it to your advantage too)

Highly recommend JC2 if you have a dx10 capable system. It’s my favorite game I’ve bought in the last 6 months… and I’ve bought a lot of games.

I’m going to buy Railworks 2. Even though I’m almost positive it will be horribly boring. Because I am somewhat fascinated by people who are fascinated by dull stuff, so I get the temptation to try out goofy stuff like ship simulators and rail simulators. The few people who like it must really love it though - because they get enough business to put out like 200 DLC packs.

If you’re interested in COD games, 4 is the last good one they made, so I guess that’d be worth it. It still has a pretty active player base of people who reject the horrible new stuff. I’ve been planning on playing it again but I’ve been too lazy to find my install DVD… dark ages physical media bullshit.

Edit: Beaten.

Why isn’t Bully available in my region? Are they trying to tell me something?

Fucking Call of Durpy: Durp Durp is the #9 seller on steam, at the full fucking absurd ripoff price of $60, while there are 1000 better and massively discounted games available. That enrages me.

Of course I think the top sellers is somewhat price-weighted, so it’s not in the top 10 of units solid, but ffs people would you really rather have fucking broken ass Durpy Durp bullshit than like 12 or 15 other games?

Are the Spore DLCs worth it? I’m trying to decide if I should buy Spore or the Spore Complete Pack.

raises hand

In my defense, I bought the Orange Box, played Portal, some Half Life, and some Team Fortress, and then got rid of it.

Don’t tell my brother, who bought it for me for Christmas a couple of years ago, but I think Spore is a pretty mediocre game. The first three parts of it, IIRC, are pretty fun (single cell, hunting animal, tiny tribe); the fourth part is a lousy RTS; and the fifth part is a completely falling-apart turn-based strategy game.

There’s nothing in the current mix that I want. Which is good, because any 24 hours I can go without buying something is a victory at this point.

Tales of Monkey Island complete pack? Ohhh, that’s ridiculously tempting. I’ve never played a one of them.

Not sale related but my wife just got me an early Xmas present of a decent headphone/mic setup. I guess I can finally try to join the L4D2 games and only be embarrassed by my bad playing and not the crappy mic.

Agreed. It’s the general consensus that Spore is pretty, but completely void of gameplay value in almost every way. (Reviews can’t be trusted here–they were written too soon after (or even before) the game was released and I’ve come to discover that game reviews are typically bought (sometimes directly, sometimes through the implicit threat of lost advertising) anyway.)

I’m not sure I’d compare the fifth part to a TBS game–unless you were referring to something like Trade Wars? The fifth part of the game seems to me to be a simplified, unfun single player version of trade wars.

The worst part of the final stage is it runs directly counter to how the game has been progressing.

1 Lone Cell
2 Creature with small pack
3 Small Tribe
4 Small Armies + Cities
5…Lone Spaceship

Sure you can colonize planets but you really don’t do much with them after you fire them off. You’re not managing an empire filled with armies instead you’re a gopher for your people shuttling spice around. It felt like a huge step back to the beginning of the game (whoa zen like).

It was what really turned a mediocre game into a bad game.

I kind of want AC2, but I’m pretty sure my machine can’t run it, being a quasi-netbook. The JC2 demo didn’t work, so I’m not going to waste money on that. Recettear is a different story, and I’ll probably pop it in the cart tomorrow morning.

As a “quasi-netbook” I wouldn’t be counting on running much, but you might want to stock up on a lot of indie games at $1/pop.

Clones, the daily Indie game, was listed at $5 earlier today when I checked. But it’s since been updated to $2.50. It’s on page 15 (daily indie sale) and not page 1. It’s a modern take on Lemmings I guess. At this price I’ll probably grab it. Also says it has multiplayer/teamplay so that might be fun.

People on the fence about Monkey Island the sale price has gone to 75% instead of 50% on my sale page. It’s probably done the same in the US.

Hmm, I wonder what the deal is today, they need to get their shit straight. I wonder if it was an error implementing the sale in the first place, or the publisher was unhappy with the rate of sales and asked for a reduction, but I could see people having a pretty legitimate gripe if they bought the games at the higher price earlier today.

Anyway, at $9 I bet Monkey Island (the 5 chapters) is a pretty good deal. Haven’t actually gotten around to playing them yet…

It’s happened with other games. When the treasure hunt started alot of my first day sales were 0% sales and other weirdness. It usually cleared up after an hour or two.

Maybe, but that’s usually fixed within a few minutes. Wasn’t Monkey Island still $17 through most of the day? I guess I can’t remember for sure.
