The US gets the region screw for once. Saint’s Row 2 is only $3.28 for Europeans.
Anyone play torchlight before? Is any good?
Either way it is still worth it. If someone hasn’t played it I highly recommend. It is, in my opinion, what GTA IV should have been. Not realistic at all but incredibly fun.
Yeah it was a fun game should last you many hours.
It’s pretty fun, yes.
I played the game through once with each character. It’s simple but fun.
I notice that some of these games say XP/Vista with no mention of Windows 7. I’m guessing some of the older ones may not have been updated recently, but are there any issues with running them on Windows 7?
I would hate to waste 99 cents
I’ve yet to see a game that would run on XP that wouldn’t run on 7, but maybe some very (8+ years) old games might have some problems. Haven’t played with the Windows 7 compatability/emulation mode. I wouldn’t worry about it.
Oh, get it. It’s amazingly well done. I consider it Monkey 5, even if the makers claim it isn’t a full Monkey game.
I got pretty bored around the mid-twenties levels, and quit. IMO Titan Quest is a far, far superior game. Torchlight has some inventory management improvements, but otherwise I don’t see much to recommend it.
Red Faction Guerrilla. I picked it up in last year’s sale, and it crashed in 5 minutes every time I started it up. Turns out it does not support Windows 7 in any way, so it does happen.
Also, seconding Titan Quest. Torchlight was designed specifically as a game for people who don’t play videogames, and it’s been successful in that regard, but there’s really not much substance there. Titan Quest, on the other hand, is the only Diablo clone I know that’s actually as fun as Diablo itself.
Huh? I have Windows 7, 64 bit; Red Faction Guerrilla runs without a hitch on it. It must be something else about your system.
I had a lot of issues with the Red Faction games. Some of them require limiting the cores on your processors or removing antivirus programs.
Well I already got Torchlight. It was cheap though so if it isn’t great its no big deal.

The X game looks kind of interesting but I’m not crazy about sims. I’ll wait to see if anyone comments on the game before committing to it.
Everyone loves the Civilization games so it’s worth buying even at such a high price.
Altitude looks fun and is cheap.
It’s hard to say which game was the best of 2009 but Batman and Dragon Age are both serious contenders for the #1 and #2 spots. Batman is a steal for 7.50.
Call of Duty is decent if you like FPSs. I liked Battlefield Bad Company 2 better though.
I have all three of the Red Faction games from last year’s sale but I’ve only played the first one. Took me some effort to get the first one running but, once I did, it was a decent game. Still haven’t fixed #2 and #3. I think I had to either disable some of my memory or limit the cores on my processor. Either way, it seemed like to much work.
PLEASE buy FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage. It’s an extremely fun arcade type racing game that we get SDMB member only games going on occasion.
I’ve enjoyed Tropico 3 enough to recommend it (and its expansion) for six bucks.
For someone who’s never played any Monkey Island games, is the Monkey Island Special Edition bundle on sale today a good place to start?
Disagree, MW2 is a total piece of shit and I wouldn’t consider it for more than $10 at most. If you wanted a COD game, you should’ve gone with the $15 COD4 sale, which is better in every way.
BC2 for $7 earlier was like several of orders of magnitude a better option too.
In fact, I see black ops is #7 on the sales chart right now for a full fucking ripoff $60, and it enrages me. Really, all of these incredible deals for better games and people are like DURP DURP IT SAYS CALL OF DUTY LOL I HAVE TO BUY IT is going through everyone’s head? Blatant bandwagon consumerism or something.
Anyway, Dragon Age is awesome. I don’t normally recommend spending $25 on single player game (rather you might as well wait for the next sale and pick it up for $10 and it’ll be just as good … if you have things to play in the meantime) but Dragon Age is worth it.
Batman: AA is the best game of its type ever made and highly recommended at $7.50.
The Monkey Island remakes are fun from what I hear and definitely worth $2 each.
Definitely grab Flatout: Ultimate Carnage for $2. It’s a demolition racer and we get SDMB games together from time to time - I’ll run some more soon if people are interested.
I already have one of the Monkey Island games, but at $3.75, picking up the second one also is a no-brainer.
And Arkham Asylum at $7.50? Yes, please!
Except for impulse purchases, I think I’m done: with Mass Effect 2, Bioshock 2, and Batman, I’ve got plenty to keep me occupied for the next little while.
Well, shitbiscuits.
The main page said, “Batman, $7.50!” I clicked on the graphic, and went to a splash page: “Batman, $7.50!” So I clicked through to the order page, clicked “Add to cart.” Received an email:
Went back and traced my steps. Turns out that on the order page, there was a link at the top for Batman for $7.50, and a link just under that for the complete Square Holiday Pack for $74.99. I didn’t even think there’d be two links on the page, just clicked the first “Add to Cart” I saw, and placed the order. Maybe a glass or two of bourbon preceded the order.
I’ve written to their customer support asking for a refund: I think it’s very poor form to have two pages advertising a game at a certain price, and to have the order page offer a different product that wasn’t mentioned on the first two pages. I’m not going to install Batman (which of course is part of that $75), in the hopes that they’ll remove the whole pack and give me a refund. But if they don’t, it looks like I’m not buying any more games for awhile.
