So anyone know what the deal with the summer coolers (in TF2) is? If I’m not planning on buying keys (or anything else) at the Mann store should I just get rid of them?
I looked at the Mann Store out of curiosity and Summer Cooler Keys are $2.49. I’m going to take a guess that it’s a losing proposition even if you’re just pricing it against the “retail value” of its likely contents. In any event, I’m not dropping $7.50 on keys for pretend hats and flip-flops.
A friend was staying with me for the weekend and had been very interested when she saw me playing Dragon Age Origins. She’d asked a number of questions about it and likes the “dark fantasy” concept. She’s also been interested in Bioware’s works for a while but is more of a MMORPG player (we’re in the same WoW guild). I sent her the gift of the DAO/A+DLC offering when it was $10. Great timing for that deal!
I jumped the gun on Civ V by grabbing the DLC a few days ago, before the current daily deal. I’ve already been suitably chastised by SenorBeef, but y’all may continue to mock me.
Grabbing Monday Night Combat tonight when I get home - knew it would be on sale again at some point during this, Beef. Will try to get in the next SDMB game, though I’ve also been playing a bit of Rift again since I got my new computer up and running.
Seems like it’s just a pack of summer items with new keys for them. If you’re not going to get keys (and I recommend against it, kinda silly) see if you can trade them to someone for some scrap or something.
COD4 is still pretty widely played, by the way, if you’re wondering about getting it. Lots of people rightly reject the bullshit that is 5 6 ad 7. In fact I just saw a news item about how the final version of a cod4 star wars overhaul mod was just released. Looks funny.
Does anybody knows if AI Fleet Command is worth it? It’s just 2 euros, so it’s very tempting.
BTW, living in Germany sucks sometimes, I cannot get Stalker: Chernobyl, but I can get the other two.
Are those two worth it?
I didn’t notice anyone responding to this yet. I’d say it’s worth the ten bucks mostly because ten bucks isn’t a lot of money.
The DLC’s are well done, though, like the rest of the original game/Awakenings. You won’t get a whole lot of extra play, but what’s there is nice. I’d definitely get the DLC if you’re thinking of playing through again, but if you weren’t all that into the game in the first place, you can safely spend that $10 on a different game.
In other news, I’m happy to pick up the last S.T.A.L.K.E.R. offering, and I’ve been playing the King Arthur game. I really want to like King Arthur, but the little flaws it has really don’t mix well with my play style, so it’s been frustrating.
I’m debating getting the Mount & Blade game, or some other strategy game along those lines, but I think I’ll just find myself frustrated with a strategy game that isn’t very well polished. Anybody have suggestions/opinions on a well-polished game in that genre?
Depending on what kind of polish you’re looking for, Battle for Wesnoth isn’t super-flashy graphically, but the gameplay is solid. And the price (free!) is hard to beat.
Thank you, I’ll check it out. And yes, I meant polished in terms of solid gameplay, as opposed to pretty graphics.
I think I have a problem. A Steam problem.
I’ve been trolling the daily deals and twice so far I’ve hit upon a game and thought - “Wow, that looks cool. And for only $x.xx it looks like a steal.” So I click on the game to find more info, and when I scroll down Steam tells me:
YOU ALREADY OWN THIS GAME
What the hell? And sure enough, there it is in my library. Purchased in some other sale but discarded into the “I’ll get to it later” dustbin. Dammit.
Of course I’ve still bought new games during this sale. In fact I just bought a couple of developer packs that put me at some crazy number of games (Senor Beef said that I’m showing 466 on my profile). What? That’s crazy talk!
I think I have enough games to last me the rest of my life, but apparently I’m always looking for more as well!
And I just looked at my Steam profile (same as my SDMB name). Over 27 hours in the last 2 weeks and only one of those games has been released in the last year. Man, I need to crawl into a cave with my PC for a year and just work through some games!

The L4D2 bundle is worthwhile. The SDMBers haven’t played it in a while - I was planning on hosting games again when they released the rest of the l4d1 campaigns in l4d2 like they said they were going to, but we’ll go back to playing it.
Batman AA is an excellent game.
I don’t really have an opinion of anything else. Is Atom Zombie Smasher any good?
Kings Bounty games are very, very good turn-based fantasy combat, if you don’t mind the light-hearted approach to the genre. I think I have 171 hours played on the two first ones, bought the latest expansion pack now.
I thought I heard that L4D2 is primarily a co-op/team game with little single player appeal. Is this correct?
So which should I get - Batman or GTA?
I’ve had great fun playing through it single-player, several times. It’s one of my favorite stress-relievers.
I’ll second King’s Bounty. If you like Heroes of Might and Magic type games at all there is no reason not to buy this at that price.
Is killing floor any good?
