Well, Palin certainly does other things besides her Palin impersonation. Colbert, on the other hand, has to be in character at all times.
By the way, it’s probably worth pointing out that Colbert is comedy death when it comes to movies. A quick glance at his resume shows he was involved with such mega-bombs as Bewitched, Strangers With Candy and (ouch) The Love Guru.
I find Colbert more consistently funny than “The Daily Show” because TDS depends almost entirely on their correspondents. The correspondents are very hit-and-miss. Colbert is better than any of the current crop of them. Also, his background as an actor, not a stand-up, works much better for his format.
It is my understanding that he is not making fun of just O’Reilly, but all TV talk show pundits. Case in point, my favorite Colbert Report moment was when he had Nancy Grace on the show. At one point she asked him, “Are you mocking me?” I missed Colbert’s answer because I replied to her by saying “Every single night.” Nancy Grace is one of three people on TV who cause me to grit my teeth by their mere presence; the other two are Dr. Phil and Sherri Shepard of “The View.”
I must say, she actually comes off as rational and sane. I’ll never forgive her for the way she tore into those meany richy-rich boys from Duke, but I do know that she has a good general point about society. I just don’t like her.
