Too bad he’s already passed out his super-PAC money. Stephen’s sister Elizabeth is running for a vacant seat in Congress, the seat held until recently by Rep. Tim Scott, who has now been appointed to the Senate. As a Democrat she faces an uphill battle. President Obama lost big in her district in the last election. She’ll probably face Mark “Appalachian Trail” Sanford, whose ducking out of the Governors office without telling anyone ought to cost him at least a few points at the polls. And I imagine her famous brother will help get out the vote amongst his liberal leaning fan-base, which might make a difference in what will probably be a low-turnout election. But its an R +11 district, so even with that, probably something of a longshot. ---

Stephen Colbert’s fans are liberals? He says so many mean things about them I thought his fans would be conservatives. I guess he’s the Jack Chick of Basic Cable. ---

Seriously, in the first year or two of the program, surveys were showing that liberals loved the show as a parody, and many conservatives like it because they believed it was true. I suspect most of them have caught on by now. ---

Most, but not all. And more if you quote him without attribution. It’s so much fun to play with their pointy, little heads! To be fair, much of what he says is actually out of the RNC’s playbook. And most seems to start that way. ---

When Colbert campaigned for President of South Carolina, there were murmurs of agreement after one woman called him a “Charleston Dandy.” Assuming this term means “A flamboyant or effeminate male, regardless of sexual orientation,” it sounds like they did not get the joke. ---

I think having his sister run counts as funny and outlandish! But he does keep his family pretty separate from his persona: John Stewart mentions his wife and kids fairly often: Colbert, never. He will occasionally talk about a sibling or have one on, and he keeps things very superficial. ---

Even if the campaign manager is not from there, either, studying the political demographics of districts is what he **does,** it’s his profession. A mediocre doctor can treat you better than an amateur who has read a lot of medical books. ---

Y’all realize of course that’s MY district, now. And I’m a member in good standing of the party. We are trying to organize a Q&A session with her … sort of a town hall thing. Since Martin Skelly dropped out it’s pretty much her and about a billion republicans in the race. Gonna be an interesting one. ---
