Yeah, I’m definitely catching this one. This is the story I read years ago as a kid that, to this day, makes me always think wherever I am, “Okay, if I get trapped in here with these people, what do I do? Where are the places to hide, what resources do we have, who do I align myself with, etc?”
…my parents were right when they said these stories would affect my mind, weren’t they?
I don’t know, man…that Mr. Magorium thing looks like a real stinker too!
I have high hopes for The Mist too, though they might wreck it. It’s almost certain they’ll change the ending, as Siege said. And you know they’re going to show the monsters, so I hope they’re not too goofy.
As a whole, I abhor the movie-going experience, but I’m in for this one. Maybe I can convince my friend to do a late night showing at his theatre for a select few of us…
I’m super excited about this. It’s my favorite King short story other than The Long Walk which I’d also love to see be made into a movie.
The trailers look promising and from what I’ve seen it seems true to the story but I’m really hoping that they don’t fup it up and give it a happy ending. And I also hope they don’t leave out the best part–the giant legs from nowhere attached to a creature so big they can’t even see the rest of it I read The Mist when I was 13 and it scared the teetotal crap outta me and now my 12 year old is begging to go see it. Haven’t made my mind up about that yet as denying her would be kind of hypocritical since I read it when I was her age.
I don’t doubt you at all, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing - as you say, one can take an idea and do it better. Hell,
and that was written in 250 B.C.E.!
I for one didn’t mean they won’t or shouldn’t show any monsters, just that to maintain the feel of the original and not kill the tension in the movie, they need to be judicious about it, and it appears that may be the case.
OMG, I just watched the trailers!
I’m not all namby-pamby about horror movies or anything. But holy crap that looks scary! Now I’m really excited!

I don’t know, man. I hope the horror isn’t predicated on the people being stupid.
I mean, they were trapped in a convenience store, for crying out loud. They had enough food to last them a good long time, especially if the electricity doesn’t fail. Yeah, being stuck in such a small place with so many people would suck, but so would being vivisected by a giant tentacle monster.

Yeah, I always thought that I’d be one of the ones who stayed behind and took my chances that the mist would lift and things would somehow be okay. Of course, if I’d been in The Poseidon Adventure, I wouldn’t have climbed up the Christmas tree, either. If we’re ever together when disaster strikes, do the opposite of what I do.
Actually, they’re stuck in a grocery store. With giant windows in the front. The electricity has failed, and while they have enough food to last them “a good long time”, they do not have infinite food.
Ultimately, staying would be the stupid thing to do.
Yeah, people don’t like to be confined, even in relative comfort. It’s like being snowed in. Even if we have food, electricity, etc., after a day or two you just have to get out. Then factor in not knowing what’s going on in the rest of the world – you have to try.
What’s this? A Stephen King movie about a group of people confined by bad weather who have to deal with a supernatural/alien menace. I’m looking forward to this new twist.
I’m really looking forward to this movie, and I’m really hoping it doesn’t suck. Unlike most of his books, I thought the ending of The Mist was perfect. 1408 wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t quite the version I wanted.
This morning I copied the audio play onto my phone so I can listen to it at lunch- it’s been years since I’ve last listened to it.
