Stephen King's The Mist

The local paper had a review of the movie it doesn’t sound as good as we hoped and they changed the ending. Would some good, kind Doper please, please, please tell me how the movie ends?
Yes, I’m too much of a wimp to watch it! I’m interested in how you guys thought it was, though.

Right now, it’s running at 76% fresh on Rottentomatoes; I didn’t read Siege’s spoiler all the way through but the reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes do say that the ending “goes against the grain”, and that the movie is “surprisingly pessimistic” for Hollywood. So I have hopes.

I’m going to avoid spoilers about the end, and go see it this weekend! It’ll be interesting to see my hubby’s reaction to it, to, as he’s never read the story.

Sorry, we can’t do that. Stephen King himself has said that a law should be passed saying that anyone who does that should be killed.

Really.

King apparently approves of and is excited about the adaptation.

lol the ending is already all over the net.

I won’t link it but just google ‘the mist’ ending spoiler, Siege, you’ll soon find it.

Yeah, I know. OK, I’ll risk King’s death notice…

From this (negative) review.

Warning: Ending Spoiler!

Oh, he doesn’t know!

There was a TV version - either new Twilight Zone or (more likely if my memory serves) Outer Limits. Fairly faithful, IIRC.

I still think Bester should have sued.

I read the review. Wow.

It sounds like someone thought they needed to atone for the happy ending of Cujo.

I’m not pleased.

??

Alfred Bester?
Which story of his does this resemble? I’d like it for my collection of Stephen King influences.

So you can’t show your Dollar Baby publicly, but surely you can share it with your friends? Right, **cmyk **ol’ buddy, ol’ pal?

Seriously, I’m annoyed that there’s a film of The Gunslinger, as well as an animated version of Home Delivery directed by Guillermo del Toro, which I can’t watch. Hmph.

Sure… if you’d like to read it, I can send you the first draft… Just PM me.

But if you make a movie out of it, I’ll Jaunt you and hit the Nil switch.

(by the way, who’s Bester? Are you talking about Oats?)

Alfred Bester, the author of The Stars My Destination, in which “jaunte” is a word describing teleportation.

We will be seeing The Mist tonight! Wheeee! Hubby called me a couple of hours ago to say he was on his way home (should make it here by 6:30) and he was up for seeing it tonight if I was. There’s a 7:10 showing at our local cinema!

Don’t know if I’ll post about it tonight, but I’ll definitely weigh in on the subject tomorrow morning.

:smack: Duh. I was thinking he’s a character in the story. I even made reference tho the novel in the Dollar Baby.

I’ve read Bester’s **The Stars My Destination **. Maybe I’m missing something but I don’t see how *The Jaunt * rips it off. Certainly not worthy of a lawsuit. I mean, a lot of SF stories use some sort of teleportation as a motif.

OT, the reviews of **The Mist ** in both Washington newspapers were pretty harsh. Along the lines of hey, you’ve got the makings of a good story to tell, why focus 90% of your energy on the religious nut? Would society really break down so quickly that people would follow the rantings of one person (to include human sacrifice) after only a couple of days?

It suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkeddddddddddddddddddd.

They take one of the few subtle, psychologically-potent King stories, and wreck it.

The ending wrecked it.

The story itself works on not spelling everything out, and on not resolving everything.

The movie shows too much, resolves too much, and the ending is Teh Suck.

There are issues with some blunt, shallow, overly-broad acting, and some odd casting choices, but the ending absolutely reeks, and defeats the tone of the story.

If you want a Stupid Monster Movie with Gratuitously Ironic, Moronic Ending, this one’s for you! :smack:

Did King have any sort of creative authority on this one?

The word on the horror boards is that King is happy with it. Go figure.

I hear you. Perhaps the talkiest horror movie I’ve ever seen. The wonderfully ambiguous ending went right out the window, didn’t it?

To give the film some credit, though; it was pretty effective when it stuck to the short story. Cut half of the dialog, and end it in a HoJo; it would have been so much better.

Ahhh!!
It was as good as I imagined it!!! :o :stuck_out_tongue:

Jane is such a good actor.
On the other hand that kid!

Luved the ending.
It took guts.
