“The Stand” miniseries has been remade, and will star Whoopi Goldberg as Mother Abagail.
In addition, I recently started re-reading the “updated” (1989) version, and realized that the earlier version could best be described as the Reader’s Digest Condensed-esque version of this. And while this would be a REEEEEEALLY tall order, this book would be great updated for the social media age. 
On top of all this, just last night I watched a C-SPAN podcast I had Tivo’ed about the 1918 flu epidemic, and someone mentioned that it killed approximately 0.6% of the U.S. population. Looks what THAT did to the social order, and we haven’t even gotten to 0.1% yet with COVID.
